Steve/ Tracy, are there any spots that are a little more challenging to explore, or some good "play" spots?

Not that I know of; there is an alternate trail off FS Road 85, in vicinity of the Flagpole Knob, which takes you down to Switzer Lake and out to HWY 33.

Some Isuzu friends did some exploration on other trails last Labor Day weekend; they rambled and wandered on trails which I've not seen, except on the map.

Here's a quote from their page on Planetisuzoo:
"Sunday, we decided to go on an adventure. We headed into WV and tried Hall Spring Road but the gate is closed except during hunting season. So we headed deeper into WV and found Rough Road. We ended up driving about 40 miles never touching pavement and ended up at the top of Second Mtn. So we went down Second Mtn to the gate (which is also closed except during hunting season. After back tracking, we went down Long Run Rd until we finally hit pavement and took Peak Mtn Rd back to Rt 33. Total miles covered - - - 70! The terrain varied from gravel, packed dirt, rocks etc. The views were great but you will have to wait for Andy and Mark to post their photos."

Here's the link to the loooong thread--see page 8 for a few photos.
Isuzu GWNF Labor Day

If a group were seeking to do a "day run", I would recommend Peter's Mill/Tasker's Gap. The trail is near Edinburg, just south of Front Royal, thus saving significant drive time for the NoVA/DC/Maryland crowd versus driving to/from Harrisonburg.

I'm not sure if I'm going to make a trail ride in November. I might be doing an engine swap!

Taskers and Peters mill have a lot of ATV trails and a little dirt trail for trucks but I've only seen the one trail for trucks there.
