Guess I'll be able to give this a proper test run this week. Experiencing a bit of weather.

Kinda funny, buddy of mine got two of these, one in good shape, one beat up. Gave me the beat up one, because bearings were ****ed ( came with new ones) and it had been on it's side, so the crank was full of gas.

Got that all sorted, only remaining detail is that the genius who owned it last, ran it with the blades in backwards, and beat the ever loving piss out of the anvil..so it doesn't cut quite as well as it should. Once I find out what the anvil is supposed to look like, I'll fix it.

Probably why he bought a new one. Apparently he was moderately insane. Got himself banned from Island Saw, which I can't imagine is easy to do...

I'd rather have a tractor mounted one, but until then , the price was right on this.
Here for you. Boredom is high.

Thanks, I think I did download that.

This is the bit here...I think I just need to go to the saw shop and feel around in there. So I can decide what to weld back in.

Won't be doing much welding today I don't think. Suspect we might not get power for a day or two.

It could be a couple of days. I went to Shell in Ladysmith, first row in town with power, to buy gas for generators.
Hydro crew was working right on the highway this side of Ivy Green on the west side. Darkness is everywhere.
So long as we don't lose food I'm happy. Guess I'll be lighting a fire here shortly, house hasn't cooled down
yet so no rush.

Should I bring the Hq and get some firewood?

Lol, hemer park. Probably rules.

Plus I'm off a night shift so I'll knife anyone who starts a chainsaw when I'm napping...🤣
I’ll be right over!! Haha! Got the new open muffler head from Walkers. Should hit easy 132 db
I mean bringing a knife to a chainsaw fight doesn’t seem fair.

Now we are talking, quietly!

It's less about the knife vs chainsaw than guy with chainsaw wouldn't hear anyone coming...just saying 🤣

Powers back on now. I made it happen by digging out the genny and having to pull the carb off to get the a****** running.

I was bolting the carb back on when the lights came on.

Naturally. :bang:

Now I will come over tomorrow. Still no power here. Not expecting it for another day. No crews in our area at all today. I’ve got one generator surging and it’s pissing me off. I’ve completely stripped and cleaned the carb - twice! It’s got this electronic surge for load adjustments. At first it cut off when I pushed the choke all the way in. Not it will run with choke opened right up but still some surging. The other one runs pretty good but not as quiet as couple of years ago. I’m gonna check it in the morning. But I think I’ll take this second one up to Spunky’s and see if we can do a diagnostic in the parking lot. Be nice to have the bloody thing run like it should.

Sure I'm around.

I really would like to do away with the shyte gas gens and get a bigger diesel. They're just happier sitting around I think. And less finicky.

Ours is a Costco champion we bought probably 15 years ago. At least .

Really only good for giving the fridge and freezer a little help, but can't complain. It's usually 1 pull start after a year.

Based on what I was reading about those generators, I’d suspect the mixture screw needs adjusting. The generator I was reading had a plastic cover over the screw. The screw was two turns out, and turning it in 1/2 a turn fixed that one.

Yours sounds more like a lean mixture or air leaking.

The simplest “generator” for me is the 7.3 diesel with a 215 amp continuous duty alternator. A couple 6v batteries, a 2000 watt inverter, and a “battery protect” feature and I’m in business… but no one within a 1/4 mile sleeps.
That’s why I’ve got 2 others that are quieter.

The one I want to get running well is the Onan propane generator off a class A. Got it running when I bought it home, but no it’s being a bastard. It only has 180 hours on it.

. If I learned anything from my boatyard days, it was don't get an Onan.

Although, if you work on one you can in fact call yourself an onanist.

Thanks, I'll look into that. I'm not a carb mechanic by any means.

There are two speeds, most run at gas speeds about 3400 rpm the good diesel ones run at 1800 rpm/
My younger years living in the arctic in camps, listening to diesels thump away providing power.

Good news here, woke up to lights. Happened around 1:35 am. So shut off the Yamaha and flushed the toilet
and ran the silt sediment thru a couple of flushes. Weird, only the toilet gets silt in it. All the other taps run
clean. Glad it's over. Still plan to run up to Spunky's for proper service advice. Feel pretty stupid if I
something else happened. Last time 20 min after we got power back from a 3 dayer, some drunken
a****** obliterated the power pole not 20 min after the power came back. Another 18 hrs without,
not taking chances.

:(

I wish they weren’t such a pain. It was a hundred bucks for an electric start, 3300 watt, super quiet generator in a housing that had almost no hours, and had just had a service. It seemed like a good deal at the time. I even picked up a free half full tank of propane (250 lb or so). I’d thought a Cummins motor would be a good thing. The starter solenoid crapped out… hopefully once I replace that it’ll start behaving.

If I can find some time, I’ve also got a 2000 watt Honda generator that was opened up when I got it. It had good compression and was working well, but it wouldn’t start for the PO one day. Someone working at his job site opened it up, and then didn’t touch it again. He was cleaning out his C-can and just wanted it gone. For $30 I figured I could sort out why it doesn’t have a spark… then our lives started falling apart and I’ve shelved it. Given what they’ve worth, it might even be worth paying a small engines guy to get it running… or just sell it to him and use one of the other generators.

On one hand I think I have to many, but we have had several occasions it the last year+ that power at the office has gone down for 5 or 6 hours. Battery backups are great for most outages, but after a half hour of so, they start turning off.

What do you guys use for bear proof garbage enclosures?

My one tenant got chased around the house trying to scare off three bears that were ripping in half their locked plastic wheelie garbage bins.

Steel box, air horn. If ya kick em in the nuts they run away. Don’t pull on their ears, they hate
that. I’ve heard if you feed them KFC they never come back.
They didn’t shoot the bear did they?
