I just got off the phone speaking with Toyota Corporate from higher up than the region hq in San Francisco. They said they could not, at the moment, close the fuel tank recall campaign on mine eventhough they researched the recall service done up at Kendall Toyota of Bend, Oregon. They were able to pinpoint the ro order and said it was performed, but in the order, the entries for the two hoses no longer made were left empty, and as far as they were concerned, the recall campaign on that vehicle remains open. This is what they told me. They also said they got alot of people involved trying to locate this information. Now they are contacting Toyota HQ in Japan to try and find a solution to all these 60 series coming in to dealers for this recall. They mentioned trying to possibly get Toyota Japan to reopen manufacture of these hoses in order to facilitate fulfilling all these active recalls, but he assured me it will take some time to get a solution order from Japan. In the meantime, they allowed ALL recall parts put into my 60 to remain in there at no cost, including the $920 new fuel tank and everything else part of the recall EXCEPT the two hoses that are no longer made. The two hoses that are no longer made, will have to be installed by my mechanic, and they are sending me a check for holding on to my car and to help offset the cost of the mechanic installed hoses. In the meantime, they said to periodically check with dealers for the parts becoming available again, and they also have my contact info to ping me in the event the parts become available. If and when the parts become available again, i will be able to bring it into a dealership and have the hoses replaced with the OEM hoses specified in the official and legal recall details. That's about it.
I'm guessing some service managers COULD possibly get in a bit of trouble if they now start to see these recalls completed without the the two hose parts available worldwide.
