Understood. Hmm yeah our VINs are quite similar even. I'll keep trying. Thanks!

I was thinking its possible it might have to be put in by the dealer unde your name my wife took it to the dealer for oil changes when i was overseas but once you get it registered you can generally see when if ever it was at a dealer for service in most cases. I use to use it alot when I was a Service Consultant at Carmax for any Toyotas that would come in the shop so I could see if any work had already been done by Toyota.

Also tried to register by VIN and it says it's not valid. Hmmm... Otherwise that's a cool resource if you can get in...

OK so I emailed Toyota about getting registered on the Owners Site and this is their reply:

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We very much appreciate the fact that your 1984 Toyota Land Cruiser is proudly on the road today!

Customers may lookup safety recalls and service campaigns by the VIN at www.Toyota.com/recall

We apologize for the concern with the message you had received while trying to enter your VIN through the Toyota Owners web site.

We have checked your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) JT3FJ60G4E009XXXX and determined that your 1984 Toyota Land Cruiser has fallen off of our records for Toyota Owners.

We are very sorry, because the vehicle is an older model Toyota and has fallen off our records, you would be unable to enter or add the VIN on the Toyota Owners web site.

We appreciate your inquiry on the service history for your Land Cruiser.

We apologize that due to privacy-related reasons, Toyota is unable to provide vehicle service history through email or mail. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

You may also contact your local Toyota dealer to inquire about the possibility of obtaining service records for your Land Cruiser.

We again apologize for this situation and for any inconvenience using the Toyota Owner’s web page.

If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

I wonder if they will APOLOGIZE when your truck blows up from leaking fuel. I had no problem finding the info I needed to take to the dealer for my 85 FJ60, that is at the dealer right now, getting the recall done. All the information I needed to get this done was found right here in this thread. Check posts #11, #45 and #68. It stinks that you are getting jerked around. Keep bugging, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Thats crazy I don't understand how mine is registered I did it several years ago though. It won't let me register the VIN on my 80 though but I think thats because it is originally from Guam.

Pics of new tank.

Reviving an older thread that was essential to me in getting my 1984 FJ60 fuel tank recall accomplished, so adding notes for future seekers of new fuel tanks:

My repair was accomplished 2/2/2017 by Kendall Toyota of Bend, OR. It was a little over a month-long process to schedule the repair which began with an inquiry to Toyota USA (confirmed eligibility), and involved several times being told it could not be done.

At the time of service, "everything but the main fuel and main return line" was available, and I suggested that they inquire about the use of bulk fuel hose as was done by the Medford dealer (mentioned earlier in the thread).

Once the recall service was finally approved, everyone at the dealership was cool and seemed genuinely happy to work on an old 'cruiser. No cost out of pocket except for a couple 6-packs for the mechanic and service writer as a thank-you.

I JUST finished mine a week ago through the dealer. There was 1 part number that was NLA (77250-60050 Hose, Fuel Return) and Toyota Corporate worked with me and the dealer to complete the job. The corporate # is (800)331-4331 and ask for Devona. She got everything worked out and may be able to refer you to a dealer nearby.
FYI - Numbers and contacts that helped me...

I am currently having the same fuel tanl recall issue with Toyota of Stockton California. They hwve finished the recall work using bulk hose, but ot has been sitting at the dealership for 2.5 weeks, waiting for Toyota Corp in San Leandro, CA to get their heads out of their rear ends and endorse the recall with the bulk hose lines.
I think it's pretty stupid, since the orginal fuel lines were rated for much lower pressures than these new bulk hose they used.
I'm going to refer them to the recall service performed at the Bend, OR mentioned earlier, and see if we get somewhere faster.

Just got told the dealership doesn't have the fuel lines, therefore they won't do the recall…how did you persuade them to use the stock/bulk fuel lines and clips?

Just trying to get this "accomplished" as well…any info or tactics to use at the dealership would be appreciated…thanks

I was told the same thing a few months ago. I ended up making it happen by being politely persistent. They started out saying that there weren't any tanks so I started calling other dealers around the region. Ended up finding one in Atlanta who said there was a tank in Jacksonville. I told the local dealer where to find the part, then "explained" how they'd have to use bulk hose. I think they finally decided that it would be easier to do it than to keep telling me why they couldn't. Oh, it also took a couple of scheduled service appointments so they could "assess" the job.

Bureaucratic pain in the ass, but patient persistence got it done. I made sure to NOT take it out on the individual I was speaking to...Good Luck!

Bergstrom Toyota in Oshkosh, WI did mine took one visit with my paperwork and a weeks wait. But everyone in the place gave thumbs up and were excited to see a very different truck than normal. Washed it up and even did the seat belt recall as well. Helps that there are only 3 sixty series LC in town (rust city).

This is not to flame the other users, but for others in the area who need a resource.

Thanks for the info on the dealership in Wisconsin…hoping I don't have to go that far, but I will if I need to.

How long ago did you have the work done? This year? 2017?

Just trying to get as much backup info on this as I can to show the dealership that it can be done with stock fuel lines/clips.

A couple things I'm guessing were helpful:
  • As others have mentioned, I went out of my way to be polite and understanding with everyone I spoke with from dealership to Toyota Corporate. "I know, it's a 30 year old car....just trying to make sure it is safe for my family". I told them I was willing to have them fit the recall work in when they had time, but wanted to get parts ordered before they went out of stock. This isn't my daily driver.
  • After weeks of unsuccessful work with the dealership, I did open a ticket with Toyota Customer Care (800-331-4331). They interact with a person at the dealership (I forget the title) who is responsible for customer satisfaction.
  • Understand that this applies to the FJ60, not the FJ62. At least one "no" came when staff at the dealer recalled being asked about the recall for the (newer) FJ62, and because that recall could not be done -- assumed this older model could also not be done -- they didn't bother to check.
  • There is a regional Toyota staff member who approves the recall -- and it took some time for that response. I believe Kendall waited for that approval before they even ordered the parts -- so a slightly different scenario than @graygundog describes in which they used bulk fuel line but are waiting on approval
  • I referred to the recent work by the Medford dealer (reported by @Homey55) and the staff at Toyota USA (Devona) who helped approve the bulk hose
Ultimately, they called when parts were in and asked for a week or so in case they ran into problems or surprises while removing the old tank --- but got it done in a day or two.
