Not another fj60 gas tank recall issue. Called Toyota corporate today.

Toyota's part suppliers ARE NOT going to put those parts back into production.

I think folks are taking the loss of this recall too personally.

Imagine you manufacture 12 million vehicles a year. Do you actually think they are going remanufacture 2 part numbers for a 30 year old truck that they sold maybe 500k iterations of during the ENTIRE manufacturing run?

Seriously? Are you all on drugs?

Buy the tank for $900 be done with it and use a substitute for the hoses.

Stop this BS on a 35 year old recall. I don't care how important you think your Land Cruiser is to you; Toyota sure doesn't care and nor does Toyoda Gosei who supplies the two hoses in question.

EDIT: I do not work for Toyota nor do I represent their point of view. I am speaking from being a former Toyota dealer employee and someone who has spent a decade within the Toyota system.

To anyone who is following this thread and has had this work preformed within the last year's timeframe, could you please send:

1) the dealership info where you had the work done

2) the date of service

3) VIN # to your vehicle

4) any other info that could help my cause (copies of the invoice etc.)

I can be reached via cellphone/text at 303 543-8226 or via email at brewduck@yahoo.com

Thank you to all who reply or have already replied.

…to be continued
John
I'll give you the VIN when I get back home if it's on anything I have stashed from its history. All the main paperwork is at the mechanic garage 6 hours away. If not, I'll get it when the mechanic gets back to me with it.

Did any of this info help? I just got the buy back option from Jay at Toyota.
How much did they offer?
I never got as far as a dollar amount as for me, sentimental value, money, time, excitement about seeing what was originally my grandfather's pride in joy when he bought it in '83, I could not put a price on it.
Unless they offered me $100,000.00
Then I'd sell it and buy another and restore it to new condition and invest the rest towards real estate :bounce:

Jay said the last buy back offer was around $2200. He also said that my engine code can not have the recall completed per the engineers, and that there's nothing else that can be done.

If they'd told me $2200 I'd have thrown up over the phone. Toyota gave me $500 just because it sat at the dealership for over 3 weeks. $500 for waiting sounds like a much better deal to me :flipoff2:

Sure. That is the biggest load of BS I have heard to date. Amazing.

Toyota dealership personnel DO NOT have access to the engineers of the FJ60.

Or to any Toyota vehicle.

Yikes, super sorry to MUD, Beno, my local Dealership, and Toyota. I had no idea that my recall service might be one of the last ones that Toyota USA would authorize. I posted only to share helpful information with others -- in the spirit of all of the helpful information I've found here.

When I had called Toyota USA, they gave no indication that I was ridiculous for asking - rather, they said (their words) that I was fully "entitled" to the repair work under the federal recall.

As an engineer, I can appreciate why the manufacturer would eventually stop supporting a recall campaign once enough parts become NLA. As someone who got a tank replaced, I also appreciate that they found it reasonable to use bulk fuel hose to replace two pre-cut / pre-formed hoses. My assumptions was that they would keep replacing tanks with bulk hoses until some other part(s) or the tanks became NLA.

Again, I'm sorry for stirring up the pot.

I have no problems paying for these parts!!! The dealership will NOT even order them for me!!! That's where my frustration lies with this whole thing!!!

I have repeatedly asked them to about availability of the parts and to please order them. They keep telling me the parts come in a kit and because the kit is incomplete, they will not order the parts ‍♂️.

Not too sure what to do now. I most likely will put a long range tank on my 60…anyone have any good suggestions?

Any info on the work you had done in your Cruiser would be helpful. You said they used bulk hose? If I can show evidence of this I think I can state my case to get this work done…

Please reach out to my via (303) 543-8226 or email at brewduck@yahoo.com

I would really appreciate it

Man a Fre may be you're only choice. I'd do it if I were in your situation.
Read up on installation. There's at least one thread on installing it.

Jay is from corporate that was workin on my case number that told me that. I didn't mean to stir anything by looking into a safety recall.

Why are you wasting your time sir? Call me up. I'll order every piece except for the two hoses for you no problems.

If you are in Texas, "Jay" has as much connection to toyota as Santa Claus.

Wow, I can't believe people have had so much trouble from certain dealers regarding the fuel lines and tanks. Having said that, and being the current owner of a 1968 Ford f250 and a 1968 Dodge Charger, I'm thankful that any OEM parts for the Cruiser are still available. If Toyota as a whole is dragging their heels regarding the recall (vs. individual dealerships) there may not be much that can be done. They're fun little trucks, but they're old and parts are drying up. Aftermarket parts are hit and miss. We'll think back fondly on these days when we get to the point of killing two Cruisers to keep another one running.

Beno has been a big help to me when it comes to OEM parts. You all might want to hit him up.

I recently picked up a 1984 Fj60 that has been sitting for many years. I'm trying to bring it back to life! I'm going to go through the fuel system at some point. Do you guys think there is any possibility the local dealership still has access to a replacement tank? I'm going to take the vin in and be very polite when I bring up the recall:) Thanks for any advice!!
**It does tell me on the carfax that the recall is still open so I don't think it has ever been replaced.**

Just had mine swapped out in March this year. Part # on the tank was 77001-6024, Gasket fuel suction 77169-14020, gasket fuel sender 83361-20030
And when they did the install, they told me the rubber around the fuel suction assembly came apart and they charged me for that part to replace 77240-60030
Good luck!
