Full disclosure: mods move if you like or delete…

I have a 2006 tundra with the 4.7 and recently got a scan gauge. :::flame suit on::: truck reached 230 while sitting in stop in go in 103 degree weather for about 5 minutes. O.E. dash gauge stayed in the middle.

I have the scan gauge set to alarm at 220. Since I have an 80 series I figured it be a good place to start.

Is there cause for concern? Fan clutch checks out and has resistance when at ambient temp. I should probably check the rad cap next to see if it holds pressure? Did a coolant flush ok the truck 2 years ago when I got it. No leaks detected and water hasn’t been changed in who knows…

What do you guys think. Is 230ish okay and with in the realm of operating temps under said conditions?

Plenty of threads on coolant temps you can search for. 230 is well above normal, should be 190-ish, maybe 200 for a hot day and sitting. Depending on your miles and maintenance, those threads will have a list of things you can R&R.

First thing I'd check after making sure coolant is burped and t-stat is good, would be the fan clutch. All else being healthy, a bad fan clutch is normally the reason for getting warm at low/ no speed.

Fan clutch is looking good. Went out this morning and spun it over by hand as best I could and it stops in not more than a quarter to a half of a turn.

Let me go outside, start the truck and turn it immediately off to check as well. I’ll post a video link on YouTube shortly.

That dash temp being in the middle range is screaming at me. If your controls are seeing temps in the normal range, the controls have no reason to kick on the cooling fan.

First thing, you better check if when your scan tool gets above 200, see if the cooling fan comes on.
