Greetings from the Midwest noob question here I have been in the market for a gx470 and I finally found one that I though was clean with lowish miles 143k well maintained one owner. But then I look at the frame do you guys think this frame is shot?

I would be extremely cautious with that GX. The rust between the body mount and crossmember looks like it could be all of the way through the frame. Some surface rust is fine, but I'd walk on a GX with any actual holes in it.

Also, you'd really need to look inside the frame with an inspection camera, as these rust from the inside out.

Unless it's a cheap trail beater, I'd likely pass.

I don't think it's shot, but you need to put it back on the rack, use a chipping hammer (a welding supply product) and go after any suspicious areas. Look for 'intersections' where things are welded together and can trap dirt and salt - like sway bar brackets, etc.

If you buy it, I would buy 3 aerosol cans of Fluid Film at Lowes and hose down everything. You will still fight rusty fasteners underneath, but that's part of the Midwest rust situation. You don't have a moment (or season) to spare, so get on the rustproofing right away.
