I have a chance to bring in some parts from Venezuela. I need info on the 5 spd tranny and TC. AFAIK to switch a US spec 80 to the NON US spec 5 spd you would need the tranny, TC, associated hydralic parts pedals, crossmember etc.... Will the drive shaft flanges match up? Any chance the US Spec TC mates to the NON US 5 spd? What sort of demand would there be for a full kit?

I think the tailshafts may be different lengths too Man to Aut.

dd113, besides Shed Boy, Christo and Robbie, I don't know of many others around here that would have any info like that for you. Maybe try to PM Ale (his user id is VZLAFZJ or something like that). He's a good friend that has a VZLA spec 5 speed in FLA. He may know.

Pre 99 models would tough as they were carbed 1FZs and wouldn't have computer signals for the EFI. There are some other strange things with Venezuelan spec'd 80s. I believe some of them had Dana axles. I know their 70 series had Danas. Something about a certain amount of the parts had to be from Venezuela. It would be neat to get a 5 speed, and I love manuals. But it would be real hard to sell me on spending money on converting to a manual when the 80 wheels so well with an auto. For the money on the manual you could buy a lot of other cool toys for your 80 and not have any hassles.

Eric is right, specs are pretty iffy and there is *very little* information regarding model variations. IIRC, '93 FZJ80's had the standard Toyota rear axle, but subsequent models had the semi-floater Dana 60 rear axle, but I am not 100% if the Dana had a centered pumpkin or if it had an offset pumpkin like on the Vzla-spec 60 and 70 series.

Most (if not all) Autana's are part-time 4WD, as were the 1993 and I think 1994 VX's. After that, the VX was available in full-time auto, but I am not sure whether part-time was still available.

To add to the confusion, the 5-speed transmission used in the VX-spec is different than the one used in the STD (known locally as "Autana"), and there were further variations throughout production (still going on on strong, BTW, FZJ80 still in production today). EFI was introduced in 2000 or 2001, as optional, and became standard in 2001 or 2002.

There are some interesting items that were spec'd on Venezuelan FZJ80's, like the big manual chrome mirrors, the refrigerated center consoles (on the VX), split front bench seat on the first few years of the Autana, and even vynil seats on some of the early Autanas. No rear ambo doors, no electric lockers, no sunroofs. Front running lights are clear rather than yellow as in US models.

I wouldn't step within 25' from Venezuelan used parts, as they're bound to be hammered and Venezuelan junkyard dealers make US junkyard dealers look like benevolent samaritans, these guys define lack of scruples. Besides, junkyards in Venezuela are the number 1 venue for retail of stolen, chopped-up Land Cruisers, and this could be problematic at customs.

I am bringing in an H150F and am looking for left hand clutch/brake pedals if you find them. I also would like the front bench seat!
Thanks, Jeff

You would also need the flywheel and bolts from a 1FZ down there. As for model years the early ones have seperate computers for 93-94, 95-97 have the tranny computer in with the engine computer. 91-92 with the 3fe has no tranny computer. So if you did one on a 95 and up you may have to sorce a computer for it out of I do not know where. I remember seeing the EFI set up In Venz, it is a coil pack set up with no distributor. Likely no emissions either. It might be tough to source the parts to make a clean shift on a US truck. good luck later robbie

We will see what happens down there. I am getting one set up for free to see if I like it. Not real worried about the quality of the parts as the guys I am going through are hooked up with INTI and a few othere well known VZ clubs. I think it would be a cool mod but not all that great in the big picture.
