Greetings from Uganda
My wife severely overheated our VX 80 Series to the point that it came to a standstill while driving.
Started up and ran fine after it cooled down but of course the gasket is blown (bubbling out the radiator cap). I have removed the head and the combustion chamber are cracked and partially burnt away and number 2 cylinder is heavily pitted on the cylinder head face.
Some questions and advice from any fundis on this group would be most appreciated.
What are the chances the head would have developed cracks from this severe overheating? I have no way of testing for this here in Uganda but is it a common result when overheating occurs with these engines?
If not, should I attempt to repair this head or should I just source a recon one and go from there? Skim the head and regrind the valves, replace combustion chambers. Might be able to get away with the pitting, strangely, there is no pitting on the piston itself?? What might cause this?
Cylinder bores are looking great with almost no lip at the top but am guessing I should replace rings while I'm about it.
Anyway once again any tech or fundi advice would be most appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Best regards
Frazer
