Non-Traditional Bumper Options for GX470

I've been wanting a bumper option for my GX that would allow for a winch, and have a bit of an attitude, but not necessarily add all the weight of the great plate options out there (ie SSS, ARB, Ironman). It would also be less complex to install than either ARB or Ironman. SSS has a great Slimline option for the Gen 5 4Runner. I've also seen US offroad has some options for the FJ. Take a look at the photos below and chime in. Would you be interested if there were an option that would allow for a winch and some lighting options, but would not necessarily be a full blown plate bumper?

Picture these concepts on your GX. I cannot comment on the feasibility, but would love to explore the concept.

well unfortunately the GX does not have the style lines that the new tacoma or the 4runner do. those style lines in the bumpers on the tacoma and 4runner make it very easy to cut sections out and replace them with an "bumper" or winch mount/skid plate/anchor point. so your probably gonna be better off with a hidden winch mount if you dont like the looks of the other bumpers out there, and dont want the added weight, but want a winch.

Yep. If you notice how the T4R fenders angle up at the wheels too, this makes it appealing to have a bumper as shown, since they already have better approach angles on the factory bumper. The GX is square at the wheels, so I think a bumper like the ones above would look odd. Plus, the air dams on the T4R make it flow better with the lines of that bumper. No such luck on the GX unfortunately.

I'd love a light weight option also. But eventually, I know I'll end up just cutting the whole plastic fascia just below the fog lights, and most likely going with a hidden mount.

what they said ... if it could be done and not look horrible we would have done it already ... unfortunately the gx isnt "asking" for it the way the 4runner and tacoma is ... but like dan said we have the "incognito" hidden winch coming out next month that is a sleek option to a full bumper ....

To add to this thread, Mark at Metal Tech just released a GX470 front bumper and is working on the design of the rear.
