I have an odd noise coming from the front after a birf repack/caliper rebuild/new rotors/100 series pad install. I have a 250 miles on it since the work was done, total of about 116K on a 97. It sounds like pads rubbing on the rotors, but it is more pronounced when I hit a bump and it can still be heard on harder bumps even with the brakes lightly applied, but not when heavily applied. I suspect it is the old (original ?) shock(s) telling me it's time for them to be replaced. I have lifted the wheels and spun them, and there is a slight noise from the pads and rotors, but not as loud as the sound when driving. What things should I check out to determine the source?

I have the same thing happening and took it back to the toy mechanic that did the work on my 80 (pads/rotor replacement on all 4) but gettnig the same noise/grind on the PS front...basically it was botched putting it back together some how ....waiting for the results of his find...from a search on here several reasons came up : either dry spindle, loose wheel bearing, preload not set correctly....

I'm sure that I put it back together correctly, and I'm not excited to take it back apart. So before I do that I'd like to eliminate the shock possibility. What would I look for on the shock to see if it's losing air on compression and making that noise?
