Cold this morning here in Flagstaff, Montero wouldn't start, so I jumped it with my hundy.
Now the Toyota cranks but will not fire. :frown: :frown:

Checking fuses, any other ideas? before I have it towed. Hopefully didn't fry the ecu..

thanks in advance

I've seen where bad battery or battery post not cleaned (lite gray film) and greased keep from running, even when jumped. This is not the same as a battery that was drain of change that is still a good battery. This was not in our series 100, but MAY still apply.

didn't cross the leads. Battery still VERY good in the hundy, cranks a bunch. Just no start.

ya, you figure, no fire when crank: no fuel. The question is of course how the fuel pump could be killed by a jump.
The relay, maybe?

I bet it's fuse. There have been many cases here where the fuse looked good but had a micro-crack in it. Try replacing EFI related fuses with spares or known good from a hotel system (lights, radio, climate). The fact that it cranks means you have a good batt and connection.

Or... and this is doubtful... but if you had a bunch of water in your tank that froze and is now clogging.

swapped the fuses for the efi and ecu. Cranks hearty. Was running a champ right up til the jump of the f'ing Montero.

:frown:

What is the security light on the dash doing? Is it staying lit while cranking?

security light not lit.

Tow truck on the way, with this weather I need my LC. I'll post the results of the diagnosis.

OK, then I guess I'll enter a vote for fuel pump/ fuel pump relay.
Good Luck with it and don't forget to post up the outcome.

little squirt of starting fluid in intake during crank....it she fires for a bit, no fuel...if not, other issues.

Try using another key or replacing the batteries in the key fob as well.

How would this help (battery that is)?

To test your pump, you could pull off the engine side fuel line by the fuel filter, then turn on ignition accessory.

it's already proven that the battery isn't the issue.

the key fob restricts fuel flow if it doesnt sync with the ECU or something like that. pretty good call to try another key fob and see if it cranks. although if it started for a little bit than stopped id say fuel pump or a fuel relay

The key fob does not need a battery to start the truck. The battery is for the remote functions only. The RFID that allows the key to start the truck is passive on the key side and requires no battery. This is why we asked him if the security light was lit.

If the security light is off as OP says then the key has been authenticated by the ECU and should not be the problem.

I see; well worth a try.

Not even in the top ten

So it is upside down day in Flagstaff. The inertia switch was tripped.

Not even in my top ten possibles.

Whaaaa? How? We're talking about the little button up under the dash? That's a new one for sure.
