Hi all from a longtime lurker, just purchased a '97 fzj80 and had a couple questions, but wanted to give you a little history on myself first since ive never posted or responded to the forum, as you can tell I have no typing or grammer skills whatsoever, but I can wrench on a cruiser with the best of you, so that being said ill get to the history part of this post . 33 years old, bought my first cruiser (74 fj40) at 20, wheeled it what seemed like every night for 5 or 6 years, was my dd for 9 years, did all of my own wrenching along with one of my buds.(front disc conversion,4-speed conversion,lockrite,3" lift).bought my first fj60 4 years ago (85 texas one owner, very clean) ome lift kit, Jim chenowith carb,header,de-smoged,33 bfg at's. Now I own an '97 fzj80 110,000k no lockers, white exterior, tan leather, descent shape, wifes vehicle, really I just wanted an 80 , so I sold the supra and the wife had no choice. and we just had our first and hopfully only child(boy,GAVIN), please no flames on last statment. OK,now to the questions. Iam hearing a slight buzzing noise from what sounds like the rear PS of the truck when under acceleration (kinda like what a fuel pump sounds like when you are listening directly beside the tank) it changes with rpms and only makes this noise about half the times I drive it. The cruiser runs great, gets 15 to 17 mpg, transmission shifts like new with no clunky, clunky at all. I dont notice any diffrence in performance when the noise is present, any good advice will be appreciated . oh yea,the cel light is on (egr) I have read on this and there will be no questions on that subject from me, so dont worry.
Now to my second and last question, for now. my owners manual has TDS booklet and cards for key fob showing a pic and instructions on how to use keyless entry, panic, etc. I did not get the fobs with my keys and the local toyota dealer say by my vin. # it does not have that option, however the windows have the stickers and there is a button w/ a led light left of the steering wheel, agian , any good advice or information will be appreciated.
thanks
JARROD

As far as the key fob problem pm cdan with all pertinent info and I am sure he will be able to give you a definative answer as to your particular rig.

Welcome to the forum. I am guessing that your rear PS noise is your resonator not doing its job completely. Is it a type of whistle?
As for your second question, look under your driver seat, you should see a black box that may have RS3000 on it. If so, I believe there is a scan of the manual somewhere (Beowulf's website?), and you should get compatible keyfob(s).

Welcome!!!

Just get use to the whistle, I tell my family/friends it's the turbo kickin' in and they are amazed!

As for the Toyota alarm system, check under the seat as Kenton mentioned, you can't miss it!

If you want to see what the romote / key fob looks like (not to buy of course) you can check out this auction.

Enjoy wheeling in leather, nothing beats it!!!

Jarrod,

If your truck was originally sold by a dealer in the Gulf States Toyota region then you may discover a different type of alarm and it wouldn't show on the dealer's VIN search for factory options. I have not put the scans of the GST on my website but another forum member sent them to me.

Let me know if you think you have the GST alarm and if you need the manuals.

what kind of buzzing noise?? there is the famous exhaust whistle that usually kicks in around 70 and then there is the t-case/driveshaft/rear diff hum or whine. Neither sound like a buzz to me. if you have the premium stereo then there is a subwoofer in the rear ps kickpanel. maybe that is acting up?

your local dealer should be able to tell you from the vin which dealer who sold the truck new. Call them up and ask about there parts guy about the alarm system.

Ok,here Is What I Have Found

My buds say they can here the whistle / buzzing noise when I drive away from them, they said it sound like an exaust noise and I am going to go with that as it is not very loud and nothing seems to be wrong with the vehicle when the noise is present.
I found 2 black boxes above the driver kick panel, one box has main security moduel on it and the other box connected by a couple inches of wire has a dial on it, they are plugged into the harness, ther is also a wire coming of the larger box that appears to be an antenna. all flames welcome along with good advice only.

We'll be the judge of that :flipoff2:

Congrats on the rig. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Welcome to the forum. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Second box is aftermarket - not sure for what, but post a pic - could even be the remote ant for an after market remote starter etc (have seen more fawked up installs than that though). :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Whistle/buzz is part of owning the 80, bond with it and become one. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

BTW, I like the :flipoff2: dude :flipoff2:, so :flipoff2:
