Nitto Terra Grappler vs Bridgestone Revo

I looked at both, went w/ the NTG's because they don't make a Revo large enough for what I wanted.
I have had no regrets.
Don't know why, but I am showing very little wear after 20K.
They are slightly louder than when new, but still fairly quiet for the way they perform in the mud.

Ali,

It looks like this is the ticket. Do you agree?

b461477 594mm 365 mm front (extended/compressed)
b461478 591mm 380mm rear

In terms of valving, do I need to know anything specific beyond what they recommend for stock replacement?

John,

Since I don't have those particular shocks, I don't want to mislead you. My Blingsteins are 7100s with 10" (about 12" with adapters) up front and 7100s 12" (about 14" ) in the rear. You know how they ride. However, it seems that at least one other person here has the factory replacement Blings and loves them. This is purely subjective so take it for what its worth.

Edlebrock IAS shocks also get a high grade. According to this month's 4x4 Australia, they'll be coming out with a set that's 50mm (approx 2") longer than the factory length. They have a factory replacement length shocks already but I don't know if they're easily attainable.

I know I just muddled the issue further for you! As Robbie suggested, do one thing at a time and then evaluate it. You obviously need a set of tires, go get a set. It's winter here, so I'd suggest starting with tires first then see where you want to go from there. Varying tire pressure can greatly effect handling and the ride quality as you know.

Let me know if I can be of any more confusion :D

Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks for 80's: I looked all over for these a few months ago. Although I could find them listed on several websites, I couldn't actually find anyone with them in stock. A call to Edelbrock revealed that they were discontinuing them for the 80.

If Ali's info is correct, maybe they were discontinued because they're coming out with something new?

Here's the spec on the IAS shocks on the article I read:

Standard Height for a Nissan Petrol (vehicle weighs 3 tonnes)

470mm extended, 300 mm closed for the front
620mm extended, 390 mm closed for the rear.

Again, these shocks are for a Nissan Petrol. Supposedly a 50 mm longer is due out this year sometime. I wonder who bought the rights to manufacture these shocks? Perhaps Walker Evans?

Here are a set of 285/75 NTGs and I have to say I like them A LOT!! I spend about a month looking into it and in the end I'm happy with these. They wheel just fine but to be 100% honest I would have either stuck with the LTX M/S for a 100% road queen or went with Geolander MTs as I'm offroad with the rig I have them on now a lot but the NTG is a good middle ground tire at an AMAZING price.. I got all four done with certs out the door for $670 from discount tire!

Bump to see how everyone's Nittos are doing. I am looking to get rid of my Bridgestones because I want to go up to a 315.

50k and tons of wheeling. They are about finished but are still round, balanced and holding air. I have another set in the garage. Enough said?:bounce::bounce2:

Thanks! Good news to hear. Ive been browsing around and you can get 4 on ebay for around $685 shipped. Seems like a good tire and a good price.

I am very very happy w/ my NTG AT's onroad and somewhat pleased w/ them offroad. I started a thread a week or so ago: I don't do any crazy wheeling, but mine are getting torn up pretty good. They have great traction offroad except in mud, I am just concerned about the tread blocks getting ripped apart.

If I knew this was an aberration I'd get another set in a heartbeat. However the 2 ppl who responded to me said theirs are getting it too.

O wear has been amazing!

first set was on my dodge 2500 HD Cummins 4x4 and put 45000 miles before selling truck. bought exact same size and tire for my FJ Cruiser....only 8000 miles but not seen any difference in performance. Great on road handling even in wet weather.
offroad they excel with everything except mud...but in mud they do much better than any BFG AT I have ever owned. They clean fairly well and I have gone through mud up to my bumper. I have not gotten stuck from the tires in mud yet...only from bottoming out and getting high centered over huge ruts in mut hole.

Unless you wheel every weekend in extreme terrain I think these are the best for the money in performance, durability, and quality.

...

Any tire that gets wheeled in rock will have damage. Mine saw a ton of rock play and rate them much better than average on tread damage. Don't wheel in slop, but for the desert terrain that I wheel in they work great, if they made a narrow 37", that's what would be on my rig.

I am very aware that tires will get torn up from wheeling.;p My concern is I've never had a pair of tires in my 13 yrs of wheeling that got torn up seemingly so easy (I am a very conservative easy-going driver offroad and air down to 18-20psi), except for a set of Grabber MT's.

By no means are mine destroyed.............

I got 29K on mine.
Tons of tread left, ~ .400"(or 13/32") at least; but a few real deep gashes into the sides, but no worries.

I have 30K on my NTG ATs...And haven't had any problems yet. Plenty of thread life left. Now I am on the fence wether or not I get another 295.75.16 NTG AT spare to go on my tire carrier...or go with a more expensive MT tire, same size, which NTG does not offer...then replace the ATs with MTs when the time comes...

I don't know what you are driving on Joe. Its all rock and gravel here. Harsh stuff. My nittos are holding up better than most.

Sorry, not an 80, but I'm on my second set of Nitto's on my 100. The first set lasted 55K on/off road and rocked! Did well on the road, snow, sand, gravel, dirt, etc.
