My leafs still have a small arch to them, and I want the biggest tire i can but no rub. Any opinion on bfg ko vs k02. I can save about 40 a tire with just the kos but if the k02s are much better I'll just get those.

Here is my clearance with 235/75r15s

I live at Bear lake only in the summers now. Tucson in winters. So no snow anymore for me. However between my 40 and my 60 I have 4 sets of tires and wheels and swap them around. I do have a set of ko2 on my 40 and nitto Terra grappler on my 60 right now. See picture. Also a set of mud terrain. And a fourth set that escapes me now. I have used them all in the snow. I think the nitto is my favorite all around tire for all surface conditions

Well I've committed, after much reading and talking with people I would have gone with nittos, but I have a 15 inch wheel. So I have ordered 4 bfg k02 and they are going to let me do a lay away type payment on them. Going to go finalize tomorrow after school. Can't wait! Oh yeah the most important part, I went with 33x10.50r15s.

G'Day

I've had heaps of different combos of tyres and wheels over the years with all sorts of motor and drive line combos in cruisers; from early f motors, to a 454. Currently I've pruned back to one with the 'mighty' 12h-t

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Bigger rubber costs more money
  • Acceleration will be poorer with bigger tyres
  • Bigger rubber will cause you to want more power to drive it
  • The handling characteristics will change from the intended ones if you fit non-stock tyres
  • Bigger tyres place more wear and tear on your driveline components
  • Wider rubber isn't necessarily better.
I had a set of 35s on the beast with the big block in it - was good fun but was in no way good for the hip pocket.

The biggest I would consider going now would be 33s, however, that's with the knowledge I have about 15% more power and torque than stock on my particular 12h-t.

In my view your best bet is to get either 31s or 32s.

32s coincidentally make the speedo run exactly to correct speed - anything bigger will cause your speedo to under-read.

31x10.50 r15 and 7.50R15 were the standard sizes.

7.50R15 are 32" diameter but are skinny. These are great on farms and give plenty of bite. They're not super-popular with the aftermarket but are easy to get all over the world and are excellent if you are intending to do a big expedition.

My suggestion would be to go with either standard 31x10.50R15 or 32x11.50R15. The 31s will give you better acceleration, the 32s will give you slightly better milage and ground clearance plus they fill out the arches a little more.

Between the two choices above it really depends on how healthy your engine and drive-line combo is. If it's a bit past its prime I'd go with the 31s.

I've run BFGs and Coopers for the last 15 years, the new Coopers wear a bit better than BFGs previously did.

I can't speak about other brands except to say that the worst tyres I ever had were Pirelli Scorpions (they slipped like slicks in the wet) and some military spec goodyears that caused my back teeth to vibrate!

Good luck

My truck never sees freeway just little 55mph highway to school and work, 2 traffic lights each way and that's it. So I went with 33s for performance and looks. And like I said a lift is in my future and I want to buy new rubber as little as possible. And eventually a regear with either a Detroit locker or ideally an arb setup but that's a big chunk of change!

Those are some cleeeeeaaaaaaaannnnn trucks you have there!
Well I had just cleaned them for this picture. They have great 30 foot paint jobs. Not so great at 5 feet away. You picked a nice size proven tire. As others have said here it takes power to move big meats but it also takes great brakes to stop them. My 35 12.5 mud terrain are heavy and take much more brake than my smaller tires

I have a friend that ran 33's with some adjustable shackles on his cruiser.. it worked well for him. Then you can just keep the 33's when you go OME and save up for a little while.

And yes, sadly i did sell Wampa. I replaced her with an 04 Tacoma limited double cab. Its a nice little truck. i just miss my rock crawling days :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

That's cool man I almost got a taco a month or so ago because it was a good deal, I could haul my dirt bikes around and gets better gas mileage since I have about a 35 mile commute every day, gas is expensive! But she (the owner) actually got in an accident and totaled out the truck ether wise I would have a taco.

Instead of rock crawling you could go Prerunner?? That would be sweet! :steer:
