Nice addition to the garage/shop ! cant wait to see the magic you work up next.

I also bought some of aluminum pieces just to play with, one of the main reasons I wanted to get into the TIG. I wonder what one could come up with using a tubing bender, some nice 1" aluminum tubing and a TIG welder...:hhmm:

I have an idea.:hhmm:

BTW, are you and Regina looking to adopt? We are low-maintenance, quiet, and can contribute to household upkeep and expenses.........:hillbilly:

Sorry I missed this post Joe. Nah, thanks for the offer though. Next year, we will be one step closer to being "empty nesters" when Brianna heads off to college.

To get back to the 45 progress...

The H55 is on the way from CA, should be here by Wed next week. I can't stop drooling long enough to get back to work on the damn thing. Slow and steady, it should be done someday...

Fred Anderson gave me a call this morning, my order is in. Nice, couple days faster than he said, well packaged including 2 X 4's made out of cardboard, making a mini-pallet out of the whole package.

As has been noted, Toyota still makes NEW H55 transmissions for us. Sticker price is - $2715.53, with our club discount, below CDan's price, tax brings it right to his price, but, no shipping. Thank you Fred Anderson for supporting our club...

No shipping cost to me, clearly it was "aired" in by the RDU marking...

Just in case anyone needs the part number...

Not quite hermetically sealed, very well packaged in any event...

MMMM, Monday Cruiser Porn.

That thing is awesome

Just checked my dealer through work (incase I ever get the rowing itch) not going to say how much it was for that bad boy

Jerry sent you a PM as I want to know what is the best way for me to go around getting this thing if I feel like it.

Agreed, if only I could find the right sized hole (oops, probably shouldn't share that)...

Agreed, tis awful purdy...

At least a re-gear, found having the Lefty in the FJC invaluable, gotta find a similar if not better option for the 45...

IMHO best option would be a crawl box you could have a low range well over 300 and anywhere in between with all the different gear combinations

Jerry, that H55 is pure porn. I wish mine was that pretty, but at least it works.

To get a crawl box for that bad boy, you pretty much have one option, the Toybox. Marlin Crawler makes a Toybox for the H55 but you have to cut the output shaft to turn it into a spud for the Toybox input. Not a big deal if you're doing it on a 20 something old transmission like mine, but a very big deal for a brand new $2700 transmission. Look into the new 4:1 gears that AA just came out with for the Split case. That case will bolt right up to the H55 ( no mods ) and allow you to run the 4:1 gears.

Either way, very cool man, good work:cheers:

Pretty trans, ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Man stuff

Agreed, yet, not great options available without major changes...

Agreed, yet, as said above, not much out there now.

I'm not happy with the gears in that you get either the crawl ratio OR retain 1:1 output in high. Doesn't make a bunch of sense to me to use the H55 then re-gear the t-case 10% underdrive. I'll have to use a gear calculator to see if the underdrive might not influence it as much as I'm imagining now. The goal is 35's with 4.88's in the 3rds.

Marlin's Toybox with stock gearing should be low enough and since I'm making a new tranny crossmember anyway, adding any length to the drivetrain won't influence that though I would have to get the driveshaft sized.

I'll be getting in touch with Marlin to see what the status is before I start scouring the market to find a used one...

Agreed, lets see if I can put it to good use.

Have to wake this thread up since work is actually being done on the 45.

I hosted a ONSC HAMOM at the house, primary goal was to dismantle it to get it out for sandblasting.

Some quick pics of the carnage...

Take-offs, what to do with these things...

Jerry,

Are you going to re-hab those axles or install something different?

My tailgate was badly dented, but not rusted at all. The bodyshop did wonders with it. (now if they could have painted it the correct color.....)
