Need a set of these, and he’s on his way.

I don’t know how it happened, but I still remember the day our Tractor with tires like that, but 5’ tall, was buried down to the axles. The tow truck would wind in its winch till the cable was tight and drive forward till its front wheels were 8-10’ in the air… then stop and wait for the tractor to move enough for the front tires to return to the road. The driver repeated this many times to drag it to dry ground. Cool, but scary. Were the cable to snap, it would cut through just about anything in its path.

Just went to crappy tire, and Rotella is on sale 2 for 200. Which isn't terrible for these days.

I see the first post is this thread is 2018,and Rotella was on for 67. 99 😒
Our diesel takes almost a full pail... add the cost of the filter, and it's about the same cost to pay for an oil change. It's about $120+ for an oil change... not much savings to do it myself and I don't have to dispose of a large pail of black oil.

The car & 40 are worth it, because the shops want $75 to change 4-5 liters of oil and I have a stockpile of filters. Materials are only about $25 for the smaller engines.

Ah, it's not so bad in the long run. Bought the 2 jugs, that should do me for another year or 2. Shops probably wouldn't touch my truck.

Parents had a 92 Merc diesel, NOBODY would change the oil. Became a bit of a drag. They bought a Lexus douchewagon.

On my last filter, so I'll have to restock on those.

Shops will strip your bung, use the wrong filter, use the wrong weight of oil, not tighten the filter down enough.
I have a company vehicle i take in for service they almost killed mine a few times over the years.
Would never ever take my own in to be serviced by people that didn’t make the cut to work on more involved equipment. No matter the cost.

Man. I do not want my bung stripped again.

It's a filter that is 4.5" in diameter x 8" tall, and the "bung" is 1.5" in diameter. If the oil pressure drops the engine will shut down. The high pressure oil pump for the injectors needs pressure from the low pressure oil pump. No pressure means no fuel. I've not had any problems in the 10+ years we've owned it, and I'm there to make sure they don't forget anything important.

Results may vary… 🤷‍♂️

Im sorry I can’t make heads or tails of that.

Im sure you don’t rack up the kilometres I do. In the six company vehicles I have driven in the last 19 years they almost killed half of them. Oil filter fell off. Another time the dude was struggling shoving the cartridge oil filter in the housing made it a couple blocks before the engine ceased. He used the wrong cartridge.

Keep using them I don’t care.

A stoner guy I know well used to work at an oil change place before he got fired haha. One time
This old couple were taking their Subaru for a road trip and wanted all the fluids changed before. He dumped everything diffs, trans, motor. Couple made it to thetis lake from Langford when their transmission locked up on the highway, he forgot to put fluid back in the transmission apparently. He’s now a parts guy at lordco haha

One of my previous company vehicles was a dodge pro master. Possibly a strong contender for one of the worst vehicles ever made. I drove it from brand new it was delivered on a truck. Every two weeks or so its entire life I had to dump a litre of 0w-20 oil in the motor. You couldn’t see it, no blue or anything but it burned oil like a 2 stroke. It also had manny other electrical and transmission problems.

Never buy one! Or do! I don’t care.

My son's Robotics team Competed this last weekend at the Provincial Championship. When their robot worked it was zippy and very fast. Unfortunately on Saturday they had problems with their 3D printed Planetary gear gearbox. Then on Saturday a solder joint broke in the first match which set them back. In the end they came in 21st out of 48+ teams.
After the competition was over, the Awards ceremony seemed very long... but worthwhile in the end. The last award was the Inspire Award. It was for the team that demonstrated creativity, engineering, helped out other teams when they could, and embodied what they wanted all teams to be. Well..

The won this Award!

Next stop... Huston Texas for the World Final competition in six weeks.

So... we'll be ramping up the fundraising... starting out with a bottle drive. So any contributions are much appreciated.

I'm not so sure about going to the USA... but we can't turn down this opportunity.

Are they doing first robotics?

I did robotics back in high school, was a lot of fun... We won a national gold and national bronze from skills Canada back when I was on the team...

Yes, First Robotics.
Their frame, gearbox(s), and a ton of other stuff is all 3D printed. If everything worked as it should, they could have been a top contender at the provincial level. They spent most of their time till now finishing the build. With another six weeks they to fine tune a couple things they could be a serious contender at Worlds.

There were a certain amount of points for auto mode, and a certain amount for human driven. Their auto was very fast and worked well at the school and on the test field. However, the competition field was just slightly larger (within permitted tolerances) so their auto mode didn’t successfully complete the required tasks.
It will be interesting to see if they can have the robot compensate for different fields… if they do, they will do even better.

Best of luck!!

There's been a few earthquakes lately, and I've either been driving or slept through them...

At work this morning shortly after 5 I'm having breakfast, loud rumbling I could hear and feel, and all the pipe hangers in the boiler room shaking

I was waiting for the roaring cloud of steam because something on a boiler let go .

Apparently a 4.6 off Orcas Island. Probably even more noticeable in Vic I'd think.

Lots of little ones are hopefully a good thing and not just a precursor to the ferry ride suddenly getting a lot shorter

This one woke me up. Grumpy start to the day, haha.

I've never felt a quake like this one. At my house it wasn't so much shaking as it was grinding. Felt like a D12 pushing gravel right by my house. Or pulling my house through gravel... lol.

Yeah I think this is the first time I've really been aware of one as it was happening . Usually it's just connecting dots afterwards.

Definitely loud. Thought it was dumpster or the compactors at first lol

Was pretty surreal watching all the rod pipe hangers whip around, had plenty of time to think about it even though I'm sure it was just a few seconds.

Hard to imagine how violent the big ones must be.

Shhh!!! Haha.

I hope we never experience it.

I had a theory going way back that if enough ice melts with climate change it could lead to more quakes. Ice melting relieves a lot of mass off the land. Land tends to rise up when that happens which can displace/shift things deep down. I've seen a couple papers on this recently, so I guess others have started coming to similar conclusions. Hopefully not in our lifetimes.
