I can conceivably understand an argument why a vehicle that doesn’t meet the safety standards for it’s day isn’t allowed… that said, if it’s brought up to the standards, it shouldn’t matter what it’s original use was or the colour of paint. It’s a slippery slope. Next they will be refusing to insure my Ford E350 utility vehicle because it started life as an ambulance.Banning of ExMilitary Vehicles in BC. Mark Fleming, an active Canadian Forces reservist who collects and rents former military vehicles, says the province will no longer allow mechanics to give safety inspections to the vehicles, making them uninsurable “expensive paperweights.”
“To be clear, I'm not asking to drive tanks on the road. … What they're saying is a civilian Hummer with a shiny paint job is perfectly legal but a military one with a green or tan paint job is not,” he said.
Fleming has been seeking answers from the ministry since he recently had to refund a client’s purchase of a U.S. military surplus Humvee, when the client learned ICBC would not insure it. The vehicle had been legally imported and inspected, registered and taxed as recently as the summer.
A bulletin issued from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch last month makes it clear to inspectors that they can no longer pass "non-conforming" ex-military vehicles that were “not designed to conform to the standards prescribed in the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (Canada) for motor vehicles designed for use on a highway at the time the vehicle was manufactured.”
“A non-conforming ex-military vehicle can ONLY be inspected under MVAR Division 25 Part 1 if its licensed gross vehicle weight is greater than 8,200 kg. Even if a non-conforming ex-military vehicle passes inspection, it is not authorized for unrestricted highway use,” the bulletin reads.
The bulletin doesn’t offer a rationale for the change, but Fleming said it’s a case of the government trying to legislate taste.
“They just don't like military vehicles. It's a taste thing. It's nothing to do with safety, because they're certainly safer than some of the other vehicles that are perfectly legal,” he said, noting anyone can import and register wooden-framed, plastic-bodied "lemons" from around the world.
Fleming has about 40 ex-military vehicles, including tanks, light armoured vehicles, Second World War Jeeps and motorcycles, which he rents out for film shoots, parades, educational and charitable events, and transporting current and former military members to their weddings and funerals.
More than being an arbitrary safety decision, Fleming said it takes away an important hobby for a community of veterans.
“In no small way, it's a kind of therapy for them. We’re talking about guys who have PTSD and stuff like that and they screw in for absolutely no reason,” he said.
Fleming said he hopes the ministry will arrive at a “reasonable” decision and allow safety inspections to proceed again.
The ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Hmmm, you made me mad (angry perhaps) too.When I said banned i used that wrong I meant excluded or harassed off the road.
My Nostradamus style prediction is they will bring out different insurance tiers.
If you have one of those new shapeless bubble crossovers lacking any form of style that says you have given up in life with all the latest safety features like accident avoidance, lane correction, automatic braking, lane departure warnings you will get insurance breaks and be in the best insurance bracket.
If your poor and can only afford a base model without the latest in life saving features you will fall into a middle insurance bracket costing you more.
If you have an older stylish vehicle lacking safety features they deem important to saving lives you will still be able to drive just at a cost of a higher penalized insurance bracket. goading and shaming good people into crushing a good vehicle and joining consumerism buying a new environmentally friendly pile of s*** that won’t last.
I also predict there will be insurance breaks for people with dash cameras and those cars that record speed, breaking and driver input. And of course any accident not recorded will be 50/50 penalized at fault to both drivers and of minimal cost to icbc as a claim just increases both drivers premiums.
You will still be able to qualify certain vehicles for classic/collectors insurance but then you will be even more restricted and limited than now in how you are able to drive your vehicle.

Now I’m seeing why they say to shell out the big bucks for a 220v mig… I’m not sure my Miller 135 would be happy welding up a bumper. I bought it for sheet metal and little things.I’d say that bumper would look darn good on your truck!! These need welding assembly, you can come

Would you recommend mig or stick for something like that? I have a NAPA buzz box that works great… 3/16” is realistically its max.
