Ah sorry man. Ordered an hour ago.
No worries

Nothing that can’t wait… or perhaps for $9 I’ll suck it up and pay shipping.

Anyone else miss out?

Trying to make camping life more pleasant. Been looking for a side awning for a while and saw this.
www.moonfab.com I’ve ordered one, no roof rack required. In other words, willow-proof! A bit
rich, but cheaper than two tanks of diesel. Just thought I’d pass it on. I hope it gets here so I can pick it up
in Vic next weekend. Will see. I got free shipping and 15% coupon. Helps.

Banning of ExMilitary Vehicles in BC. Just interesting to see some kind of fascist thinking in government. I put in the link to the story but
cut and pasted it to save on ads and tracking links. Kinda disturbing as I posted that story in Maine with decision to ban Delica RHD in that
state. With PC and all going on, looks like Nick better be careful about buying anything resembling a MegaCruiser. Certainly something to think
about.

A West Vancouver man says the province has quietly banned a class of collector vehicle without justification as to why.

Mark Fleming, an active Canadian Forces reservist who collects and rents former military vehicles, says the province will no longer allow mechanics to give safety inspections to the vehicles, making them uninsurable “expensive paperweights.”

“To be clear, I'm not asking to drive tanks on the road. … What they're saying is a civilian Hummer with a shiny paint job is perfectly legal but a military one with a green or tan paint job is not,” he said.

Fleming has been seeking answers from the ministry since he recently had to refund a client’s purchase of a U.S. military surplus Humvee, when the client learned ICBC would not insure it. The vehicle had been legally imported and inspected, registered and taxed as recently as the summer.

A bulletin issued from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch last month makes it clear to inspectors that they can no longer pass "non-conforming" ex-military vehicles that were “not designed to conform to the standards prescribed in the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (Canada) for motor vehicles designed for use on a highway at the time the vehicle was manufactured.”

“A non-conforming ex-military vehicle can ONLY be inspected under MVAR Division 25 Part 1 if its licensed gross vehicle weight is greater than 8,200 kg. Even if a non-conforming ex-military vehicle passes inspection, it is not authorized for unrestricted highway use,” the bulletin reads.

The bulletin doesn’t offer a rationale for the change, but Fleming said it’s a case of the government trying to legislate taste.

“They just don't like military vehicles. It's a taste thing. It's nothing to do with safety, because they're certainly safer than some of the other vehicles that are perfectly legal,” he said, noting anyone can import and register wooden-framed, plastic-bodied "lemons" from around the world.

Fleming has about 40 ex-military vehicles, including tanks, light armoured vehicles, Second World War Jeeps and motorcycles, which he rents out for film shoots, parades, educational and charitable events, and transporting current and former military members to their weddings and funerals.

More than being an arbitrary safety decision, Fleming said it takes away an important hobby for a community of veterans.

“In no small way, it's a kind of therapy for them. We’re talking about guys who have PTSD and stuff like that and they screw in for absolutely no reason,” he said.

Fleming said he hopes the ministry will arrive at a “reasonable” decision and allow safety inspections to proceed again.

The ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Not the end of the world for us Nick.

I never wanted to drive a full on military vehicle as my regular vehicle. It would be better to just put a nice classic cruiser on linked coil suspension with the portals and the 15bft drive train anyway. Just keep on modifying our awesome cruisers to suit till they ban everything but zero emission, self driving safety vehicles from the road. It won’t be long.

At least I will end up with a cool farm truck.

I can conceivably understand an argument why a vehicle that doesn’t meet the safety standards for it’s day isn’t allowed… that said, if it’s brought up to the standards, it shouldn’t matter what it’s original use was or the colour of paint. It’s a slippery slope. Next they will be refusing to insure my Ford E350 utility vehicle because it started life as an ambulance.

Or my 40 because: I don’t have rear bumperets &/or a stock bumper, the brakes aren’t stock, the steering has been upgraded, and the gas engine isn’t original.

Hopefully it doesn’t continue down that path. Should internal combustion engines be banned, it’d be a real shame if the power went out for a week. Let’s hope it doesn’t get there in our lifetimes.

When I said banned i used that wrong I meant excluded or harassed off the road.

My Nostradamus style prediction is they will bring out different insurance tiers.

If you have one of those new shapeless bubble crossovers lacking any form of style that says you have given up in life with all the latest safety features like accident avoidance, lane correction, automatic braking, lane departure warnings you will get insurance breaks and be in the best insurance bracket.

If your poor and can only afford a base model without the latest in life saving features you will fall into a middle insurance bracket costing you more.

If you have an older stylish vehicle lacking safety features they deem important to saving lives you will still be able to drive just at a cost of a higher penalized insurance bracket. goading and shaming good people into crushing a good vehicle and joining consumerism buying a new environmentally friendly pile of s*** that won’t last.

I also predict there will be insurance breaks for people with dash cameras and those cars that record speed, breaking and driver input. And of course any accident not recorded will be 50/50 penalized at fault to both drivers and of minimal cost to icbc as a claim just increases both drivers premiums.

You will still be able to qualify certain vehicles for classic/collectors insurance but then you will be even more restricted and limited than now in how you are able to drive your vehicle.

Hey, @Diesel Cruiserman just saw one of their bumpers on a Taco. Nice!
CNC Laser cut - sharp enough to need gloves! Local BC company. Worth a look
to all.

They even make stuff for my truck. Might spend some money one day. Love the name of their LJ, lol.

Very cool :D it almost would be cheaper to buy one of their bumpers than to buy the metal… at least if you factor in your time being worth anything.

Hmmm, you made me mad (angry perhaps) too.
Except, we'll still be able to get off the Tyco highway.

Thanks Jon. I like their sliders too. Been eyeballing their products for a while now.

Now I’m seeing why they say to shell out the big bucks for a 220v mig… I’m not sure my Miller 135 would be happy welding up a bumper. I bought it for sheet metal and little things.

Would you recommend mig or stick for something like that? I have a NAPA buzz box that works great… 3/16” is realistically its max.

I think the 175-180 welders could do a bumper just fine. 135 probably a bit small.

mines a 220V 175Plus. I can comfortably weld up to 1/2” with .030 wire. I got it specifically for 1/8 - 3/16 and
occasional 3/8-1/2. I’ve build entire FJ40 tub with .023 wire and thousands of spots and I’ve built my own bumpers. No DIY’r hits 50% duty cycle anyways. But I run a 50A breaker in my shop and never have issues.

Stepping up to 220 from 110 makes a huge difference.

Mine is the smallest 220v Miller they make I think. 180?

I've seen the duty cycle/overheat light come on once since I bought it. Probably almost 15 years ago now.
I weld anything I want with it.

@Toshi38 left his bigger Miller 212 at my place. Awesome machine, really smooth on bigger stuff, but for what I use the smaller case size of the 180 is more convenient. Fits in my welding cart.

If I had to buy a welder tomorrow I'd probably get another 180, or something similar sized.

Not like we're building bridge abutments here.

Mine is only rated for 20% at 90 amps. I only got it for repairing the rockers and 1/4s. With a new in box Miller helmet it was only $400. The helmet retails for about $230. I’m too gimped to do much anymore… so I could live with taking lots of breaks if I ever decide to build a bumper out of 3/16”. Hell, I’ve even gas welded 1/8” steel for my body tub. So I’ll be good for now. I’m miles ahead of only having gas which I had in ‘92 when I built the rear tub. Didn’t even own/use an angle grinder when I built the tub.
