Whats the verdict from the people who are running them? Do they do OK for a DD rig?

I am confused by the 2 options that they sell, I thought they sold the same birf
for 91-97 years and the 91-94 had to upgrade axles to the new style?

Mine is a 94' but was built 11/94

I thought it just presses off the old one and back on the new one?

I've been interested in them also for a spare

I got one last year off ebay for a trail spare. Came without the ABS ring. I think the ring can be pressed onto the new birf from your old. I doubt it would be easy though. But for $57 to my door, i think you can't beat it for at least a trail spare.

FYI, you could also try making friends with a tech at the local dealership. They may be able to save you a clicker birf from someone replacing theirs. Again, it would just be a trail spare. Mine cost me a lunch (and has the ABS ring on it).

OK, so FZJfillmore beat my deal. Lunch is cheaper than $57 usually.

seems to me that the key word is "trail spare" here.
If you really need to have the spare on the trail, seems like one could do without ABS.
In any case, do you really need one as a spare? Can't you just get out in 3 wheel drive?

when a birf breaks it can drop down in the housing making it so the truck cant turn, just ask us 40 guy's thinking we can drive home in 2wd, my friend got all the way home and could not make the left turn in to his driveway and ran over his mail box, that could of sucked on the freway

True, but if you open it up and clean out the hunks it can be driven safely with three wheel drive.

Hey I think I my thread got jacked:crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

Mine click like mad and I am tired of it, I want to know if anyone has had problems running these on a daily driver. The only post I found was from someone back 2003 who said they only got 30k miles before the newfield clicked. At $1000 oem I will turn the radio up louder, at $100 for a pair I will get the drop cloth out for birf surgery on my garage floor.

I'd be interested too, a friend is needing to replace both of his birfs. Are these as good as the Japanese aftermarket replacements offered by MAF for $200 each? Are they worth putting in a DD? Got a link?

I just bought a pair on ebay
$135.95 for a pair delivered
I guess I will be the tester
