I'm looking at buying a 1996 80s wagon. The original owner has done a lot of work to it and is willing to bring the price down to what I can afford which is 10k. Do you guys think 10k is a fair price? I'm including the listing details to the add for the wagon.

Not a wise thing to post the link as someone may beat you to the purchase. That said the only mods look to be front and rear bumpers, rooftop tent, tires and lift which is nothing close to $11K.

OP said 10k, you say 11k, but the link I clicked on says $12,999! I would never pay that but some would...

The ad states "OVER $11K IN MODS AND WORK WITHIN LAST 7K MILES", not the price.

$11K mods? Even if he counts labor for having someone else do his work, I don't see anything near that on there. Like others have said, front and rear bumpers and some sliders is not a $11K in mods.

That being said, it looks pretty nice. But I would never pay that much. Many would though.

I'm not saying it couldn't be done for a little less, but it's an impressive list of maintenance. Definitely worth a premium if that's what you're looking for.

It's a nice 80 and it's also listed here on MUD for sale. Good price for the amount of mods. If you like the color, go for it!

That's what I get for reading Ih8mud at work in a rush. :)

Time is money. There are pros to buy something probably less, without any mods and do it all yourself. It will cost more but knowing the ins and outs will be a big positive in the future when you encounter issues with them. But in the end, buying a turnkey means you'll spending more time going out than wrenching and/or shopping for stuff. I'd buy that rig!

those mods especially PS box and pump do indeed add up 900 PS box and pump alone REMANNED not new

I shopped for a year before I bought my 80. All I could find was heavily used rigs that would take a lot of time and money to build up to what I wanted to wheel. One day I showed an ad for a nicely built, well cared for, low mileage rig, to my wife as an example of what I wanted to end up with. She was a little overwhelmed by the price. Then she asked how much for the average tired stocker, PLUS how much for all the upgrades that I wanted. Plus, she asked how long will it take to build up my DREAM rig. Well DUH!! Building my dream rig would actually cost more even if I figured my wrenching time @ $10 per hour.

So I bought the “over priced rig” and started wheeling the snot out of it 3 days later. 3 weeks later I did a 3500 mile cross country trip. In 8 years I have done some wrenching on it and I have had a few repairs to do, but it had taken me 115,000 miles and produced a bucket full of smiles pretty often.

If your all about the build, then buy a worn out rig and refurbish it to your standards, not necessarily MUD’s standards. If your all about the wheeling, then buy something that is pretty much ready to go. Sure, there will be problems, failures, repairs, that’s part of driving/wheeling a rig that is over 20 years old.

Decide whether you would rather wheel or wrench tomorrow?!?!

It’s maroon. No.

Maintenance is not mods! That's just part of owning a vehicle. Most of the stuff on that list is maintenance. Not saying that having some maintenance items done doesn't make the truck more desirable, but then again doing these items isn't optional and you shouldn't hope to recover the cost of maintenance.

Meh, $10k seems fair if the interior is in good shape.

Are you saying the maintenance isn't something you'd consider when pricing a truck? The seller never said it was all mods, he clearly stated it was both mods and maintenance, and listed the stuff he did. He's not trying to get his money back, or he'd be asking the going rate for an 80 plus $11k. I'd say he was in the neighborhood of what has been selling for $10k for a clean truck with recent maintenance and those mods, but that's just my opinion.

I believe I did say "Not saying that having some maintenance items done doesn't make the truck more desirable". I'm just saying they are not mods. And listing things like headlight bulbs?

Anyhow, it does look like a nice cruiser. And I hope it does sell for that because that makes my cruiser more valuable than I thought. After all, it's got new oil ;)

The only thing that raises flag on me is why do all that just within the last 7K miles and few months, then sell it.
