I just bought my first LC a 2004 and have no idea what this button does. I know I can look it up in the manual but I would rather ask the question here.

It's in the owner's manual. And I know you said you didn't want to read it, but you should. Really. Good info and not just about that single button.
As someone with a daughter at UT who is a fairly inexperienced driver, driving a sub-compact... Yes please, RTFM.

Thanks for all of the replies. Just FYI I have read most of the manual and yes, I know there is a lot of good info. in there. The pwr/2nd is a button that I will probably never use, I have a Chevy 2500HD duramax that I do all of my pulling with and that I live in Austin, TX. so ice in not an issue.

Well I guess it makes sense to walk home and get your 3/4 ton instead of using the second gear hold mode to drive out of a tight spot.

I don't know if RTFM applies to that Santa Fe thread. Sounds like that young girl had never driven a 4x4 vehicle before and someone else put it in 4LO and tried to free the rig. When she got back in, I'm sure she never thought to look for 4LO or CDL.
