I just bought my first LC a 2004 and have no idea what this button does. I know I can look it up in the manual but I would rather ask the question here.

the search function works really well on this forum. try it out before posting questions, I gurantee you it's been answered somewhere

Thanks for all of the replies. Just FYI I have read most of the manual and yes, I know there is a lot of good info. in there. The pwr/2nd is a button that I will probably never use, I have a Chevy 2500HD duramax that I do all of my pulling with and that I live in Austin, TX. so ice in not an issue.

Hey staggrlee, what is RTFM?

RTFM - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2nd power increases the output by the 2nd power. That's an easy one. 2 hp becomes 4, 3 hp > 9 hp, 4 hp becomes 16 hp, and so on, up to 230 in the 2nd power. Standard on all LC 100.

Well I guess it makes sense to walk home and get your 3/4 ton instead of using the second gear hold mode to drive out of a tight spot.

here is a good thread that defines RTFM quite well:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/552765-help-santa-fe-area.html

This is an incredibly sophisticated vehicle, and the 2nd gear hold mode is one of the features that make it one of the most capable vehicles in the world.

I don't know if RTFM applies to that Santa Fe thread. Sounds like that young girl had never driven a 4x4 vehicle before and someone else put it in 4LO and tried to free the rig. When she got back in, I'm sure she never thought to look for 4LO or CDL.

That thread is just an example of the fine people on MUD stepping up to help another member out.
