Hi. Proud new-ish owner (got her in January) of a 96 LX. I am loving it compared to my '90 FJ62. Anyhooo, yesterday I snapped 2 lug studs trying to remove the nuts (I'm guessing they were cross-threaded by the PO or tire shop).

Can I replace these things without removing the shaft? I'm about a 3/4:banana: with no time to do that much this week. If there's an easier and quicker way, I'd really appreciate the advice.

Front or rear? I snapped 2 off the rear and had to hammer them out then get two new ones. Pain in the ass. Use Thread anti sieze EVERY time you put lug nuts on. That's most likely what your problem was

D'OH!!! Sorry, REAR. It does look like a pain. And I haven't tried prying off the other wheels yet....first wheel popped 2 lugs. I may need a Valium before I try the others.

As I found out from Robbie a few weeks ago, you can remove the wheel and pound out the studs. Use the 2-nut method to install the new ones.

Great. I was hoping it'd be a simple job. I still wonder how many other bolts will break when I try to remove the other wheels.

Right now I'm blaming Costco (the PO had green caps on the tires so I assume Costco?). The nuts turned about 1 1/2 rotation before stopping and snapping the bolts, so I'd guess they were X-threaded on there with more than just a T-bar.

Once this 4 Guinness hangover wears off, I'll give it a shot.

Thanx.

Go back to Costco and they will pay you full for the repair on the lugnuts.

If the valve stem caps are green, I think that signifies the tire is filled with nitrogen. May not be Costco at all.

Good luck with the other 18 nuts!
