what is better electirc winch and pto winch..im confuse....and which brand that have is best electric winch and the best brand pto winch winch...and some of my folk sugguest me to install both of it electric and pto at my hzj80.huhu..

Since the gas 80 fzj80 doesn't have a pto available we almost always use electric or hydraulic winches.

An electric winch is good for about 5-10 minutes of duty before it needs to rest and cool down. A hydraulic winch pretty much has a continuous duty cycle which means you can run it until your fluid overheats. Which would be a very long time if your cooler is set up properly.

If your diesel 80 has pto avail then it will offer the most efficient winching and longest duty cycle. You can run it til you run out of fuel or until the winch itself breaks.

If I were choosing between the three types to install on a diesel 80 with pto available, my choice would be based on budget and intended use.

On my fzj80 I run an electric because I already had one from my previous vehicle.

You also have to remember that a hydraulic winch and a PTO winch only work with the motor running. If your motor is off you are without.

For a serious off road truck I would go electric, for a expedition type truck I would go PTO.

I wouldnt do much electric winching with the engine off... if pto is an option i would do that. Hydro is good if u plan to useit all the time because it is constant duty.

thanks for the tip guys, now im going to install electric on my hzj80 ride...reason..pto winch need modification, hydraulic winch not an option in the begining because its a rare item in my region..mean expensive...electric winch..cheap and easy to install...it would be nice if install with an arb bumber.hehe...

A friend of mine has a Nissan Safari with a PTO winch and he mentioned the other night he would prefer an electric. He said the seals would leak if the winch was not used periodically, and because of leaks, he almost lost all his trans fluid once.

You can get electric power steering pumps. The MR2's came with one, for instance.

I'd like to go hydraulic, get an MR2 pump and plumb it in line with the OEM pump. That way I can run it when needed, such as when winching or if I'm in a bunch of rocks and could use some extra power for turning the tires.

You could also use it with the engine off, at least until the battery dies.

That would be cool. I may have to pop the hood late tonight on my roommates mr2 lol

huhu.really....having stuck in mud and having trans fluid dry off in the middle of jungle, that must be a bad day for some one...eya winch that rarely use can be damage by weather..espeacially pto winch.

considering that the hzj80 power stering is still heavy to turn when using 35inch centipede tyre.mybe im going to need mr2 electric power stering.

Your in Malaysia and never mentioned super PTO the GOD winch or SUN Winch?

Most Malaysians moving away from ELECTRIC due to the MUD (long mud holes KILL Electric winches) and most with electric because XFER case does not have the PTO slot WANT a GOD or PTO winch.

This GOD winch has 59 meters (yes 193feet of wire in it). YOu cannot do that in an electric winch.

If you have an 80 you putting in a 12,000 everything else is too small. What size batteries you putting in?

Hydraulic if it rusn the belts tour winch is DEAD whch is why I like GOD or PTO winches simple and no electrics to BREAK.

never hear of that.sry.eya im malaysian and i come from land below the wind Sabah.tq it a new info for me.but here in sabah we 80s owner mostly use elctric winch.SUPERWINCH and WARN Brand.....nsx 120 dual battery

I have a PTO on my HDJ80.
In terrain I find this not so useful because you can only let the winch work and not give it power by driving at the same time.
You should also always be in your vehicle as it is powered via the engine's clutch.
So you can never see outside your vehicle if the winchen is going well.
Of course, it is positive that it has a lot of lasting power.

But still, I would consider switching to electric, out of convenience.
Plug in the cable, switch on the winch and start the winch. In or out of the car, giving gas or not, everything is possible.

Does anyone have an idea which electric winch fits into the opening of the pto?
I would like to place this in the original bumper.
