Hi there, long time 4-Runner owner looking to become an LC/LX owner. Found a beautiful '02 LX, impeccable condition, 1-owner with 250k miles. Asking $10k. What advice can you guys offer? I'd prefer an LC but having a hard time finding one at that price point that doesn't need a ton of TLC. Would you expect a lot of mechanical issues at this high of mileage? I'm worried about the AHC, etc. Does this price seem fair? Thanks so much!

Two issues: 1) That price doesn't seem fair. But I'm just one opinion, and I"d negotiate lower in any case.
2) It really depends on your expectations. Can a 250k LC go to 400k? Certainly, just a question of how much maintenance cost is involved. These vehicles run forever, there is almost NO situation where I would say to myself that 250 was 'too high.'

For the right price, you could get a deal and go 150k miles, would that make you happy? If that fits your value proposition, get the price you need and go for it.

If offer 8k... That's too much.

I agree that the price seems too high. If I were you, I'd wait until I found an LC (not an LX) with lower mileage. That's not to say that 250k is a problem, but if you happen to plan to keep the truck for many years, my opinion is that it's better to start with lower mileage. You'll love an LC/LX. Phenomenal trucks.

I have an opposing perception. If that 2002 LX is "impeccable condition, 1-owner", and has great service history,
I think it is a fair price. These LXs and LCs are hard to find and even harder to fine in well maintained condition.
Being able to talk with the owner and sizing him up about how honest he is about the car is a biggie.
I would though be somewhat reluctant to purchase a high mileage vehicle from a dealer.
I looked for over a year before I found my 2002 LX. Mine was a "unicorn find" with only 24K miles but I paid
almost 2.5x what that 2002 is priced at.

FWIW I bought 3-owner '01 LX470 with 200k, modest maintenance receipts (only the last 50k miles or so were captured) and minimal rust for $10,900. 3 months and 5k miles later and I do not regret this decision at all! These trucks are special.

I was going to visit family Atlanta area, so I was looking at CL. I saw this, I texted the seller, it is 200K miles. Seems in pretty good condition, 1 owner with service records (what the ad say). I was going to take a look while I am down there. Price is pretty good to me.

My plan changed yesterday, and dont think I will make it to Atlanta, so thought I would pass this to OP @Goodcarter or anyone who is in the market.

I am not related to the seller, again just passing some info.

Lexus LX $7500 will take best offer

@bctlex Thanks! I'm only 2.5 hours from ATL. Looks like a great lead!

I too think it's a good price depending on mechanical condition, no rust, good body, no accidents over ~10 mph, paint and interior. These 100 can outlast anything on the road if properly maintained. I've seen both high and low millage that are junk, not just rust but improperly or poorly maintained. These can be expensive to bring back from the dead even if no rust, in hours of work and parts for DIYer's. For those that have shops' do the mechanical work, it's best to only buy well maintained, or one that has been based-lined by someone that knows the 100's. Many corner shop (non Toyota specialist) will make as mess of these rigs, number one being drive train. The engine can't be killed normally unless run dry of coolant or oil, or redlined to the excess. Additional very low millage can bring it's own issues like the exhaust system from many short trips. Also if not properly stored low millage from not driven regularly can have fuel system issue.

Don't let high millage scare you off. Do your home work and know what your getting into. $10k could be a great deal or $5 a waste of money no matter of what the millage is.

what will 10K buy you? I think a very nice 100 series, that would cost you over 80k to replace... and still look and drive like 80k... mine is at about 320k miles (yes I replaced the engine but ... everything else is 320k) and i'd drive it anywhere and go any place in it... it looks Nice and I'd not be embarrassed for it to be in any valet line... So... maybe 10k is on the upper side.... but if it's nice the miles are just a number... and I doubt you or anyone here could tell any difference between how it drives and how one with 70k miles drives... I might have missed it but I have never seen a posting here of anyone with buyers regret

Hey guys, thanks again for all the input and help. Such a nice community! I passed on the LX... wouldn't come down on the price. The search continues!
