First off, Thanks for the great resource here. I have been lurking the forum for a few weeks now. I feel like I was abe to make a more educated purchase after searching and reading the 80 series posts/FAQs.

I finally purchased an 80 series last Friday. I'd been searching for 6 months or so but was looking for something local. It's a 97 40th with 109k on the clock (mostly highway miles from Greensboro, NC to Kiawah, GA). One owner, with a stack of receipts/records since new. The PO has done a relative amount of PM...PCV, plugs, O2 sensors, belts, etc but from the research I've down so far here on MUD, I have a long PM list to cover over the next few months.

I repainted the wheel caps (thnx to a search I found here, this saved me $$ versus buying new ones from the dealer) and flushed the cooling system and replaced the TStat yesterday. My next chore will be front rotors, front 100 series pads and rear pads since I have a faint indicator squeal at low speeds.

Thanks again to everyone that contributes on this site, it's an awesome resource/community.

Sounds nice, looks clean, and love the color!

Welcome aboard!

Hi and Congratulations. I'm new, too. I just want to second what you have stated--just for reading the info on this site, I feel like I have a whole bunch of really knowledgable folks in my corner, and was much better able to make an informed decision on what to get myself into!

Once you do your brake upgrade, maybe you could provide some feedback on the performance....

Good luck, and yes, nice color! BTW, did you score a 'locked Cruiser?

Are you sure its an indicator squeal? Could just be dust. You might pull a wheel real quick to make sure that you actually need pads in the back, but if you feel like baselining it, have at it. You also might want to Mic the rear rotors to see what kinda life you can expect out of them, but at 109k they should be fine.
Congrats on the purchase!
Dan

Congrats and welcome.
Cheers,

I was lucky and it had lockers (probably would have bought it anyways b/c of the service records and condition). The PO said he had used them only once but both the front and rear locked fairly quickly when I tested them (I was a little suprised after seeing some peoples post on POs that hardly used the lockers and trouble getting them to engage).

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Per Romer's advice above, I'll be tackling the front axle service at the same time as the rotors/brakes....it's going to be an interesting weekend! I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.
