Well, I am hooked! Mostly from reading all the great posts on this forum, but also from seeing the few 'Cruisers and LX450's rolling around here. My new object d'obsession.

A few weeks ago I made a post in the 'Vehicles for sale and wanted' thread. I got some pretty good hits, but one in particular has really paid off. Long story short, on 23 March I head to Vancouver WA to pick up my new '96 LX450 (oh yes, with lockers!), and drive it home to Arizona! I can hardly wait to get started on all that PM!

I've been "studying" and have a lot more to learn from you guys, but I have learned so much already, I think my brain is larger! Heh-heh...

A great big thanks to everyone for all the help and knowledge shared.

And a special thanks to Firetruck41 for his gracious help and for being my eyes in a distant place:cheers:.

I hope to post some pics when I get back. Moses John

G'day :flipoff2:

Looking forward to your photos. What mods are on your wishlist?

DUDE!!! Very cool, good for you! I live in AZ, I respect you taking the time and doing what was needed for you to get the rig you wanted.. Anyway, having some 40s and 80s and all I think you're going to be crazy happy and if you need anything, help or whatever let me know.. if you're in Tucson I'd love to hang out or help you with new mods...

Oh, uh, was there a questions I should have answered?

You're probably gonna regret you said that. I've been knee-deep in PM since December, once you get past all that "well, that was easy" stuff you gonna wish you had the money to pay someone to do it... unless you're a masochist, then its fun.

I had fun :D .

Well, first things first, I want a rig on which I can totally rely. I am gonna take a look at the PHH as soon as I am in the presence of the vehicle. Then I am going to pray the HG makes it all the way home. Then I'll check out the Birfields. I think you get the drift...Replace or repair when the funds permit.

For the non-PM stuff...hmm...I'm not sure what I'd like to do. Oh yeah! Now I remember- Supercharger!-Snorkle-Rotor and Brake upgrade-I'd love to put on a set of the Goodyear MTR's-2 to 3 inch lift-Bumper mounted spare tire carrier, and a bumper to go with it!-Winch-CDL and Pin 7 mods-um...Cargo area storage configuration-HID lamps (that Euro kit looks pretty cool...)-Wings and a Propeller and as large an aftermarket main and secondary fuel tanks I can find. Yeah, I think that will about get a start!

I think I am going to have to get a job. Oh man...

This vehicle is-allegedly-in excellent condish, but I am expecting there to be stuff to be done. I am hoping the head gasket holds on, though, until I make the decision to have it done, and not the other way around! Fortunately I have a back-up car for the "just-in-case" moments.

I am, actually, looking forward to doing some stuff, but the deep stuff, like the HG should probably be left to someone with real knowledge. As a matter of fact, I KNOW it should be left to someone with the knowledge! I think I could do the Birfields (maybe with some guided assistance); all I have read, thus far, seems to say once you do it, it's pretty easy. Mostly just time consuming... And I'm glad I haven't invested much time, in the guy, beefing up my forearms-I do plan on hitting the PHH in the near future.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll have more Q's before I have A's. Just glad to have tripped over this site!

WOW man, I just looked over your posts and you may be as anal as myself.. If you don't go joining any silly clubs we're gonna get along great:) Anyway, I don't know what all the talk about the HG is? I may have missed something but it shouldn't be an issue unless you bought one you knew was bad and even then my friend put 3,000 on his to get home from a trip and it didn't leave him stuck.. We just got done putting his back together a couple of days ago..

Anyway, I'll give you a shout sometime today and I'd be more then happy to help you out with anything I can offer.. As for mods, dam nyou must have some major bank! I bought another 80 for what you were talking about spending on yours..

Congrats again and I'll talk to you soon...

Hey Man,

Thanks for putting up those pics for me! I'll be giving you a call after I square things away with the seller. Looking forward to the occasion!

Those mods I listed are on the WISH LIST. After the purchase, I think I might be able to afford the PHH kit!

So far, almost everything I have read indicates the HG failure is not an IF, but a WHEN, and there seems to be no real rhyme or reason. It sounds like I should expect it to go from anywhere between 50K and 190K.... Maybe I am the one to have missed something...(?) Are you saying I am not looking at impending HG doom? The seller has given no indication there has been any sort of trouble in the past...

Sweet looking truck! Sounds like you have already begun making your list and checking it twice.

You can do the birf job. You need a couple special tools, but they are cheap. It is a tedius messy job...lots of cleaning. But not technical.

Buy elmariachi's birf DVD and pick up an FSM. You'll be set.
