I've been lurking the board here for quite some time and picked some great tips for you folks, ie. getting parts from Slees, (like a cup holder above the radio!) to understanding wheel lock technology.

I replaced my 1992 LandCruiser about 1 year ago.. I loved that truck, eventhough it was a bit underpowered. But it was great in the snow. I sold it with 177K miles in very good condition, with the exception of some drive train slop. I replaced u-joints, yoke, but the slop was still excessive.

I came across a 97 LX 450 with only 72K miles in great condition to replace my old 92 last year, unfortunately, no lock switch in the dash, but it's still a tank in the snow and nice rig. I also love the extra power and the 4 wheel disk brakes.

I was conditioning the interior with Turtle wax leather cleaner, and it ruined my steering wheel. The leather on the wheel just melted. Now I have this ugly steering wheel. I was looking a wheelskins, but before I order a wheelskin cover, I was looking for other possibilities to fix the appearance of my steering wheel. Also, I notice that my steering wheel looks like it's covered from the factory,

do I remove this cover before I install the wheelskins?

Have any of you folks tried wheelskins or other steering wheel covers?

Thanks! You folks are great!

Wheelskins kick ass. Several members of the forum have them on there rigs. Do a search either using 'wheelskins' or user name concretejungle and there should be some pics if memory serves. Also welcome...... :flipoff2:

And thanks for lurking a little to get a feel so that posts are intelligent.

Hey thanks, I did search and saw the photos fo the black wheelskin..... This web site is really informative.

Here is a photo before Turtle Wax leather conditioner ruined my wheel.

My question is, do I remove this existing factory cover before I install the wheel skin?

Nope. It wraps right over it. My wheel was literally disentigrating at the top. This wheelskin cover fits nice and snug. Awesome deal in my opinion.

Id like to see an after picture...ive been using the turtle wax emerald series leather conditioner on my seats about once a month since I bought my cruiser six months ago...never put it on the wheel though...makes me nervous about even putting it on my seats after it ate your wheel up like that... guess ill have to hold out for another group buy on leatherique
