Hum, my 93 LC with 230k on it is behaving quite strangely.

I’m not sure how to describe it so I can do a search.

Well first of all at about 65 to 70 MPH the front end shakes moderately in OD. Now if I down shift to 3 it almost totally goes away. It is most notable on hills, going up them of course. So this doesn’t seem to be a speed/RPM related problem and it will coast like a dream at any speed.

Normally I would attribute this above problem to the transmission slipping, but here’s the curve ball, it also stumbles and shakes at idle (Trans engaged) to ~2200 RPM. I can work around DD by keep the OD off and manually shifting through the gears. Now I would attribute this as a problem in the lower RPM range, so now I’m thinking it’s a lack engine power to turn the transmission efficiently in OD, I wonder why just at lower speeds.

My other truck is a real power monster (500 RWHP), so it’s hard to compare, but I thought that these cruisers where a low RPM beast, this is not the case for me. I do see people wishing to tow 5000lb boats and such, but I fear making it across an intersection much less towing., so does anyone else feel a major lack of low end power from their LC?

Another tale tale sign is a check engine light, but it resets it’s self between start-ups and doesn’t always illuminate per my will. Is there an O/D cheat to read this for, AutoZone will check OBDII but it isn’t a hard code and my LC is pre-1996 (no OBDII), so there has to be another diagnosis method for this?

I got the shakes, lose of power, and can’t get around very well, should I see a doctor or prepare to rebuild everything under the body?

Any help would be appreciated, even just a global place to start would be fine and dandy.

You might have a harness problem where it passes next to the EGR valve. Quite a few have had this problem and it only appears when the engine torques from the load. On some, simply placing the tranny in Drive is enough to cause problems.

Yes, there is a way to get the codes from pre-OBD-II vehicles. :flipoff2:

Thanks landtank!

I found a disconnected spark plug wire in the boot.

1500 miles on 5 cylinders, a personal best.

I'm working on a twit filter for this forum but until then I don't have a way to block his postings.

I drove a short distance with one plug wire disconnected. It was very noticeable :).
