Dang I guess I'll never make it to the Cove. I'll be taking the Ferry over to Cumberland Island that week for some Primative Beach side Camping with the wild horses.:princess:Loves to see the horses!

Looks like I'm out for this one, just to many things to do to get the rig running.

Sent from my detachment from reality.

Looks like I'm gonna make the whole trip; I'll be there early Friday morning. What's the ETA Friday?

Sounds like you found some free oil!!!
Nah, in this case it's "finding" the time off. A) Did I really want to use a day for this trip when I need every day I can get for a bunch of big trips in '13. B) Wasn't sure that my "bosses" would approve more leave as I'm already taking 3 days the prior week for the Holidays. But camping and wheeling is way more important than work so..... :steer:

So is there ANY chance of meeting up on Saturday for the ride in and then getting back out Saturday evening/night? No chance of me camping...if I cant get out Saturday night, no way for me to make it.

It has been done before...

Probably depends on where the group is camping Saturday night to know if an exit is nearby.

Is there anyone else in the same position as I am? Anyone else need to come in and go out on Saturday?

THe problem with driving out is...the time it takes to get from point X back out to the pavement, it gets dark early in the winter...and knowledge of the trails to get back out, night-time travel in the cove making it tough to navigate.

I would bet that another person who shows up will leave out at Sat at some point. Its a large place and its rough in many places..therefore you are going slow most if not all the time.

Hate to say it, but I'd recommend not trying it at all if you can't stay the night. It'll be more trouble than it's worth. The only wheeling you'll get to do will be the drive in and immediately back out because you'll likely be coming in late morning and leaving in early evening since it gets dark so early. And with how cold it's probably going to be, this is the last time you want to get stranded out there.

I agree....the cove is really a camping ride...due to the distances involved which equals to time... ONe of the first rides I went to @ the Cove, the group camped and I did not. I enjoyed the ride but arriving there and leaving out on the same day just really turns into just a few hours of riding.before you start having to figure where you are and asking for directions on getting out.

I too think its best to plan to camp. If you have an off-road GPS it would be good to bring.

It was real cold that time I did not camp ...somewhere in the 20's was the high.

I doubt it will be serious cold this time around....come out and join us and have fun....I was just trying to give a honest description of the events. It just boils down to time is very limited as far as the actual trail riding as we never seem to leave or start when planned which is just how it seems to play out and then most folks like to setup camp before dark. I would not want to try and navigate to far in the cove at night if you are by yourself and have not been out there a few times. (just my view)

Getting out at the church is pretty easy.

I have always done day trips. Its a packed full day, but always worth it.

Last year we didn't make it to the church til Sunday mid-day. Not really sure of this years plans though

Getting out at that point may be easy, but to go off of what Rance said, what if we don't go there? Even so, if you came in at 9 or 10AM, getting to the church with a large group would be iffy by dark at this time of year I think. Just my 2cents though. Again, not trying to say "don't come", but I don't think I'd try it without a contingency plan of staying.

I'm still trying to make it happen, and Rance, I will be with Bob from TPI coming in on Saturday, if I can make it. Looking forward to seeing/meeting more of the group!

cheers,

Joel

Post up if your coming!

Also, if everything goes as planned we should be near enough to the north end that a sat night exit would be doable.
