Hello,
I’ve been reading this forum for awhile and have finally decided to join for more great info!
I put my introduction in 40 -/ 55 Series Tech thread even though I don’t own one… just yet. I have been wanting to get into off-roading and my neighbor has a 40 series that has been sitting behind her house and I am looking into buying it.
Is there anything particular I should be looking for or checking? I am very mechanically oriented I just don’t know a who lot about the 40 series (I have wanted one for a long time.)
Thanks for reading

The FJ40 is easy to work on. Vendors here have a ton of parts.

When buying one of these rigs - there will always be work that will need to be done

… the question is how much.

A FJ40 sitting for years outside - and not running - is not a good thing.
Yeah I guess it’s just about how much work (and money) I want to put into it. I’m not afraid of hard, dirty work and love hunting down parts. From what I’ve seen of it, it looks to be pretty solid and rust free.

Washington and rust free, yea ok. Take a magnet and look for bondo. Take a friend and rock it back and forth in high gear and see if the engine is free and the clutch/gear works. Take some pic's and post them up.

Yup, I know rusty vehicles on a personal level
But this one might, MIGHT be one of those rare, rust free, finds. I’ll definitely get some pictures and post them. This is the only picture I have and it’s very bad quality. Too far in this picture for anyone to see the actual thing.

That looks like a good prospect. Welcome to the site. Make sure the vin # matches the frame and title, matching the A pillar would be good too. Looks like a repaint, and early style doors. If you can post some pics and we'll pick it apart for ya. Just so you know.

Thank you! I will get some more pictures and information soon.

Welcome to the madness !
