So I finally found an M116. Been looking for a year or so now. Got this for a price I’m happy with. Now the fun begins. The plan is to take the tent off the rig and get it on the trailer. This will be a build thread. Though I’m not doing a lot. I think the first important thing is putting a Lock n Roll hitch on it. The pintle/Lunette system, while bulletproof, is annoying. So Lock n Roll for me. After that is a rack for the tent. Then swapping out the suspension. But it’s going to take some planning. I've already swapped the lights out and wired in a 7 pin harness.
First thing, the Lock n Roll for the trailer. I think the plan here is to have it set near where the lunette ring is. This will give me plenty of space between the truck and the trailer. With is being a few inches lower I think it will make the trailer sit level with the hitch. so that's that.
Next, things get little complicated and require some planning. So the space between the wheel wells is 45.5 inches. I'd like to widen that to 48.5 inches or so robbing about 1.5 inches from the actual wheel well. The frame is also 45.5. I plan to use the Timbren Axle-Less System. It has a 4 inch lift. The measurement's between the mount to the frame and the center of the spindle is 7.25 inches. The trailer is currently about 10.5 inches. I'm also planning to run the same tires as the truck. In order to get the same track as width I need to set the axle mounts one inch out from the frame. I'm also going to need to lower it and unknown amount to make sure the trailer will sit level. I also need to account for the back spacing and the widened wheel wells to make sure there is no rubbing there.
So some questions. By my estimates and rough measurements, a it's about 6.5 inches from the mounting surface to the most outward part of the back of my 315's. The axles have spacing of 8 inches from the frame. That leaves me 1.5 inches from the frame. I'm adding an inch away from the old wheel well width by widening the frame, but taking 1.5 inches away from the width. I'm over thinking this, but that leaves me about an inch of space between the tire and the wheel well. Ya'll think that's enough? I'm intent on making the space between the well's more than 48 inches because this is also going to be used as a utility trailer and that's how wide plywood is. I could push the wheels out another half inch on each side to give a little extra space. But I don't want to push it too far. Let me know what y'all think and if anyone has any tips let me know, never done a project like this one.
Also, Gonna have spare trailer parts if anyone could use them. I've already pulled the lights off and the wire harness.
