and you sure about your gurus numbers??? not to doubt just trying to learn and comparing to other turbo builds ive followed and would definitely agree its wise to start consevative.

granted im undereducated when it comes to how AFR and turbo size etc etc affect overall power and performance.

From scottryana's build...

at 12 psi

Stock figures are
212hp @ 4600rpms
275ft/lbs @ 3000rpms

With the turbo it reaches the naturally aspirated max's even earlier at:
212hp @ 2845rpms
275ft/lbs @ 2657rpms

And the max hp comes in 1100rpms earlier max torque is 400rpms later but there is plenty of it:
384hp @ 3466 rpms
570ft/lbs @ 3400rpms

and at 16psi

422hp and 631 ft/lb

granted he has a smaller turbo which will affect how much power and when/where you see it. Your bigger turbo may actually put down more power.... just later/higher in the rpm

422HP sounds about right. 16 PSI is a little more than one additional atmosphere of pressure which on paper would more than double air mass, then subtract a bit due to higher temp of the incoming charge. Still no slouch and would even give the 40 a run for his money if it wasn't 2000 pounds lighter.

Yeah. I take those type of predictions with a grain of salt. Sounds a little far fetched. That said I hope he's right. :)

Oh believe me, she's smart. She knows this is more for fun than anything else. She's also driven it and agrees it needs more oomph! I assured her that the ludicrous speed button would be hidden so that I'm the only one that can engage it. Her response was basically, hell no. She wants to try it. :)
Gonna go right on past plaid, eh?

I need to push up my next round of power mods now that I'm going to be competing against a gasser that makes ~600ft/lbs of torque

Might have to look at a Clark 5 speed and Rockwells to go with that 1k ft/lbs! :hillbilly:

Gassers definitely have the advantage of high rpm's. To compete with a 600 ft*lb gasser Moonshine will have to make at least twice that.

Make it happen! :bounce:

No real update on the motor - but he's spent some time wiring up a couple of factory foglight switches to my lighting, which is nice. I've worked on a CB radio mount under my single din stereo (instead of the empty storage compartment).

Still anxious to get it back and do the axles and the bumper... And some burnouts ;)

Some issues with the injector spacers - they had to machine new ones
ECU is wired up and ready to go
Working on extending the downpipe to reach the muffler
Wideband/Boost Controller is being wired in now
Mouting it on the pillar pod

Targeted date to start tuning: Next Monday

Full completion would be next Wednesday or Thursday. Wednesday would be nice since it's my birthday :)

Next Monday is today. However, I got a call last week saying he's switching from a MAF to a MAP setup - should work a lot better with the ECU. Also he was having trouble finding upgraded wires - but found a set finally.

IE: both of those things are likely adding to the ETA. Wasn't specifically stated, but it was implied.

I sent him this meme that I made.

I think he got the point.

From what I've read, mostly as a result of learning the differences when @mtweller was putting his setup together, is that a MAP sensor can more reliably predict the air intake volume, per intake stroke, than a MAF sensor, therefore enabling you to have more fine control over the mixture.

Sweet :D

There are definitely pros and cons to both. This is a great summary article that is a pretty quick read if you are interested:

EFI Tuning 4: EFI System Components

Basically, MAP is good for steady state, great for transient (on/off throttle) as it can very quickly detect changes in the manifold pressure. MAF is the most accurate, but since there is some lag between the sensor and what's actually happening in the cylinders, it is not the best at transients - however, it is far superior in accuracy for steady state. The best systems utilize both.

I do know your tuner basically just started over on the tune if he switched methods. Maybe not a big deal if he hadn't gotten very far initially. I'm guessing he didn't like the restrictions in the OE MAF system. Can't wait to see the results on this thing.

Yep - he basically started tuning and realized that the MAP setup would be much easier and more efficient.

So - yeah I don't think I'll be driving it for another week or so. Really wanted it back for halloween. I had a plan to cover it in fake blood and body parts in the driveway... I guess I'll have to have to do the same thing with the wife's Honda. Not quite as scary, I would imagine.

Happy birthday tomorrow!

Thanks man!
