LOL, my little 2FE doesn't stand a chance against any of those motors, but I'm pretty tickled with it :D

Well, let's see: First, the Earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes-Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it....

basically, I bought a truck with wheels that are too big, and instead of spending a few bucks for smaller wheels, I'm spending a few bucks for MORE POWARRRRR!!!

and all before upgrading the axles or making it stop straight
He's secretly investing in the stock of birfield joint manufacturers so he can make himself rich ....

Definitely not an apples-to-apples comparison, but it'll be fun to tune on a dyno and have bragging rights :D

Honesty @Rice or @jfz80 will likely win. No replacement for displacement! My little 3.9l motor will have to huff and puff real hard to compete with these big dogs!

HP wise my truck wont even come close.... if james doesnt blow his up first it may
id venture my 80 and 45 have just under 300 and the real battle was for last between sam and onur but someone just bought their way into second place ;)

now torque would be a whole nother matter if we can read the screen after moonshines run :D

Ok, so do you guys recommend a particular brand/model of upgraded birfield? Should I go 30 spline or stick with 27?

Should I grab a full set and put it in now and use the old one as a spare? Or just keep the new one in the truck for when it's broken? :)

I'm not sure what Longfield is like nowadays - but I've run 30 spline Longs in mine for a good while on 35's and a couple of trips on sticky 37's. Broke a rear but *knock on wood* have hammered the Longs with no worries to date. I just carry the OE as a spare, why wait to break something that's inevitable and then have no spare?

500 HP +40s + heavy use of the skinny pedal = 0 to parts destruction in 1.2 seconds :)

Be sure to get video!

I still have a mark on my shin where a jeep with a VERY healthy 401 threw a front axle u-joint cap into my leg ... and I was ~30 yards away ...

Are you still AWD? If so, I am not sure how well the Longfields will be with respect to wearing out ...

*Ahem* Don't they both have new (a relative term) 3Bs or (13B-T now I suppose)? I happen to have intimate knowledge of a pretty wheezy 2B in the running for last place.

hmmmm that's quite a lot of power to be throwing down in a wheeling rig with that kind of weight on each axle end.

at the very least you would need chromo shafts front and rear, longs in the front and every other part of the axle cryo'd..... that kind of power with that kind of weight would equal snap and crack on the trail in certain situations.

I would lower the HP expectations on that (gawd damn, that's got to be the first time I've ever said that, I must be getting old)

or maybe do a 1 ton axle swap with all the aforementioned upgrades.

And I'd say that Alex most likely currently has the most powerful 80 in the club followed by mr free. But I'm sure if you hit 500 that title will go to you until Stan starts the swap on Heather's.

most powerful in the club??? in TQ ratings more than likely Johnny but the Tgadd's could be made to be a contender... those Isuzu's can throw down some serious power tuned right.

HP wise.... I'd go with Rice

my little 3fe moving my incredibly heave military tires never really felt that bad to me... could do 80 easily. I would have liked to have at least 250HP to be optimum and not stress the driveline too much. Keeping up on the braking system meant I could brake fairly well also.

Can't wait to see this thing in person though in a few weeks.

A few years before he passed bobby changed the formula and you could now get around 80-100k out of a set before they wore out instead of the 6k from the old ones.

Who are you and what have you done with Al ... we want him back ;)

Don't be looking for a big HP number out of Heather's truck. I am putting the stock 5.3L in. It'll breath a little better than stock and maybe a bit of a tune but that's it. 350 HP would be the high side.

I must be getting old too Al, i find myself preferring reliability and longevity over all these days. Although something like a 49 Chevy PU with a 6.2L fire breather under the hood would be fun:)

Pretty much the same here in regard to reliability and will add to that streetability. The only naturally aspirated way for me to add horsepower to what I already have is nitrous (not doing that!) or by moving the torque curve so far up the RPM band (i.e. bigger cam) that the motor is lazy and useless down low.

The real bonus to what Johnny has is the ability to turn up the fuel, spool up the boost, keep an eye on his ET's, make as much torque/HP as he wants and never lose nice around town drivability.

I also do not want to cross that threshold where I have to start worrying if I will need 1 tons. Your term "Streetable" is exactly it. Reality for us is that our trucks see 99% street time, it should behave well there first and handle well enough off road to run low side class 4 trails, not a lot to ask of an 80 in my opinion.

Had I known it was gonna be this kinda party, I'd have stuck my dick in the mashed potatoes....

It's likely that I'll be using the 'slow' ECU map for the most part on the trails. The 'not slow' will likely be for a little extra boost up hills and merging on the highway. With the birf concerns I'll keep full throttle blasts to a straight line..
