We are talking about a theoretical "500HP at the crank" target, I'm not really fussy if we don't meet it fully.

Details:

T04 turbo with recirculating wastegate
440cc injectors
walbro 255 fuel pump
manage ultimate ecu
water to air IC
header wrap
wideband O2 gauge
boost gauge
oil pressure gauge, etc....

And tuning time.

Should be a good bump in power. My target of 500HP was based on MUD reading indicating that anything more than that requires internal engine modifications. We'll see how it goes.

Let me know if you want some loaner 31" rollers when it comes surgery time so your mechanic can reach the engine bay. That or I have an extra stepladder here too :D

Is the manage unit a stand alone or a piggy back setup?

Sounds fun

Sounds fun ... My only thoughts are around where that powerband will be and how hard it will come on. I had a 1986 Toyota pickup with the factory 22RTE that was a blast on the road, but when the turbo spooled up off road, it would universally create wheel spin at bad times ... And this was with a little 4 banger ...

What is a "recirculating wastegate"?

EDIT: Recirculating wastegate appears to be a tuner term to describe plumbing the wastegate exhaust into the downpipe, whereas the opposite, an "open" or "dump" wastegate would just dump the wastegated exhaust gasses directly to the atmosphere. It never occurred to me that someone would plumb the wastegate dump to atmosphere instead of to the exhaust.

If you can find room in front of the AC condenser, I'd recommend fitting an air-to-air intercooler. They do a better job of shedding heat.

I'm gonna give him a step ladder too. He'll probably just drive it up to a loading dock and work from there...

I had thought of that too. There will be two ECU maps (with a switch). One will have a lower boost pressure and one will be for full on power. I shall try and use wisely.

Forget the recirculating wastegate.- Basically the tuner is forgoing the loud blow off valve... Perhaps recirculating wastegate is something I made up to describe it :)

I chose the water to air intercooler because I felt like it would be better on the trails (less airflow when you're crawling). I was also concerned that there wouldn't be enough room for a big enough air to air intercooler (with the current front bumper..)

you and me both. :)

Wishing I was more capable and had more time - I'd love to do it myself.

Saw this in your neck of the woods today. Jason suggested maybe you found a ride for WifeofJames.

Hahaha. No, that's the breast cancer awareness truck I believe.

When you get to the dyno stage in your build, you'll have to try to find a dyno that does both gas and diesel trucks. Between you, me, @Rice (40), @jfz80 (45) and @mtweller we could have a little horsepower war in the club :hillbilly:

Maybe we could even have a dyno day!

And I could show up for comic relief

In all honesty, I could use a dyno run to dial in fuel so I don't have to eye the EGT gauge ... Need gears first though

I'm down! But I"m gonna go out on a limb and say there's little doubt that apples to apples, that 383 of Rice's is hard to beat. Now, apples to oranges? IE: naturally aspirated to turbo.... it may be close.

Only in a bench race though. I'm sure even a stock 80 with normal tires, normal gearing, and no heavy bumpers, spare tires, etc... would walk all over my finished truck. But I'm looking forward to the wooshing sound :)

Definitely not an apples-to-apples comparison, but it'll be fun to tune on a dyno and have bragging rights :D

Honesty @Rice or @jfz80 will likely win. No replacement for displacement! My little 3.9l motor will have to huff and puff real hard to compete with these big dogs!

That, or perhaps one of those articulated arms they have on garbage trucks to pick up trash cans?

Hey honey, just stand still with your arms by your side....
