new to me 91 cruiser help!!!!

just traded a 97 f150 for a beat yet low miles cruiser.

140k miles. so far i have done the following:
1, valve cover gasket
2, cap and rotor
3, plugs
4, oil
5, fuel and air filter
6, timing cover and seal.

but it wont start. i cant hear the fuel pump. cranks great. i jumped fp and b+ and still nothing. didnt even get a spark when i touched the wires.
any ideas? besides fp? i may just replace the pump. its only 50
 
ok... replaced efi relay. nothing. so i bypassed the system and ran to to an acc wire threw a relay. now pump is working. but it wont start or run without ether

If you are not getting a spark then you need to stop looking at fuel issues being your problem. I am not familiar with the 3FE but first place to look would be the CEL. Does it light up when the keys are in the 'on' position?
 
i have strong spark. i have fuel. i have solid cel with key on. it starts on ether but thats it. rpm gauge dosent move when cranking.

on most cars that i have had if the tach is dead then the ecm dosent know when to fire the injectors. so normally i would replace the crank sensor....but the lc dosent have a crank or a cam sensor. so where does it get the rpm signal from? what can cause it to not fire the injectors?
 
where are they? i know nothing about these trucks. last owner said it was getting hard to start before. then it wouldnt start at all
 
right. i just checked and i have power after each of the 3. i checked at the spot when they end at a grey plug for 1. and at a bolt for the other 2. each had power at the end. but i wil order a new set as a spare just to keep in the truck
 
No spark usually means efi relay, somewhere there is a post about the wires to the relay being junk and too thin so people replace them. Mine were replaced when I bought it.

Couple of things.
You won't hear the fuel pump. The pump only fires when cranking the starter and continues after the motor has caught.
The CEL must be on with the key in the ON/RUN position before cranking the starter. This tells you that the ECU is in a "ready" state. No CEL = no start.

There are also literally hundreds of threads on this forum regarding the 3FE and a no-start condition. Spend some time searching.
I strongly suggest a Toyota factory service manual (FSM) if you intend to keep this truck and work on it.
 
what can cause no power to the b+ wire on the diagnostic plug? i have checked all fused. they are good. also new efi relay
 
ty jon. im reading it again for the 4th time lol. but all my dash lights come on. if it was a ford or chevy or anything else id have it fixed already
