Hey everyone!

So I have been a member for a while, owned (And Built) a few different LC variations... a 1994 LC (Sold), 2004 GX470 (Sold), 1998 LX470 (Sold), 2016 GX460 (Sold), 2019 LX570 (Totaled), 2023 LX600...and now a 2011 GX460!

103k Miles, one owner, maintained regularly at the dealer. A little rough around the edges in terms of the cosmetics but I don't mind as it is basically becoming an adventure vehicle!

I just wanted to say hello again and that this will be getting a lot of work done to it in the near future and wanted to document it with me fellow LC crew! Looking forwarding to Wrenching on this and sharing my progress with everyone.

Coming up:
ICON Suspension
Wheels/Tires (Icons and Toyo open country's most likely)
Armor
Lighting
Spare Tire Solution
Dual Battery/Compressor Setup
and so on...

Welcome! Sounds like a good plan underway.

Also... gonna need pictures of the toy you've got hiding in the garage 😲
Yea, gonna wanna see more of that little white car.

Congrats on another GX!
Sounds like you have a good plan for it, looking forward to seeing it come along!

That's awesome! 2T-G? I had a '72 Corolla years ago. It wasn't DOHC though...the 2T-C was no powerhouse!

Wow! That Celica is beautiful. Getting very hard to fine these days. I had a couple back in high school, wish I kept them.

Thank you! its a beautiful car and it is a blast to drive. Currently I am located in Arizona but relocating to Northern Idaho so the Corolla may be for sale!

Anyhow, Making progress on the build. Clay Bar years of build up on the paint, polished and sealed with Cerakote, fluids, LED Headlights, rattle can blacked out the grill as well. Figured if it looks bad Ill just get the sport grill but turned out ok.

On Order:
New Brakes, Spark Plugs, Sliders, AUXBEAM Light Switch, ditch lights and brackets. I've had the AUXBEAM switch in the past and it worked perfectly well for years.

Sourcing wheels and suspension at the moment, have some connects that can hopefully get me a good deal. I should have them in the next couple weeks and installed as this truck needs to go to Idaho in a couple a few weeks.

Question: How do you guys feel about the Bolt on Track Bar Correction Kit and the Spindle Gusset Reinforcement Kit? I've heard that the weak point on the yotas is the spindle gussets but how weak are they?

Very lucky, those can be tough to get.

Tell us about the 392, why'd you get out of it?
It was actually a blast to drive, fast and extremely capable. But it had some flaws, they stuffed a giant motor in the jeep and it just had a lot of bugs, in fact shortly after the pic below it died coming down the devils staircase (A steep rocky decline) because the motor was starved of fuel even though it was 3/4 full. I had it at the dealership and they looked for an issue and replaced the fuel tank as they suspected it was the venturi tube but that did not fix the problem. Then it went back because something with the front suspension was loose which kept knocking when I turned when wheel. After 2 years of owning it I just missed the Toyota platform and the reliability. I ended up being constantly anxious when going on declines on the trails. Plus a baby and the heat in AZ and the soft top just didnt make any sense to keep.

It was definitely a blast to drive and I miss it. I may pick up another one at some point and they hopefully have a fix for the fuel issue.

Sounds like the one you want to date but not marry. Too bad, I absolutely love those things and would own one if I could afford one (as a second vehicle).

haha, exactly. She was wild and loud but damn she was a handful.

I spent a week with a Firecracker Red 2024 392. Loved every second of it. Damn thing rode better than my lifted GX, albeit the 460 was on E-rated tires at the time. Again, if money and reliability weren't factors, I'd own a 392.

As far as the layout platform of Jeeps, very short overhangs, both front and rear, high break over, relatively low CG, wheel base length, etc. they are about the most perfect platform one could have for off roading. Not even the old LC's can keep up with some of the stuff a Jeep can do, only because almost every LC (except the very first gen's) still had a long 'ol rear overhand that dragged on departures and the newer they got the worst the front, rear and break over angles got.
But just can't get over the reliability issues. Being in a predominantly Jeep 4x4 club (just a few Toyota's), I'm always hearing about engine, drive train, suspension and almost every other kind of issue at our monthly club meetings. Never hear a word from any of the Toyota owners!
If only an entire Toyota drive train, electrical and almost everything else could be dropped into one of the Jeep platforms, that would be the quintessential off road vehicle!
Wonder if anyone has ever done that?

Agreed, the platform is ideal for the trails and when everything works its amazing. The 392XR had 35’s from factory, 4:56 gears, and could fit 37s without a single modification. I literally did nothing to it and it did everything my previous LC platforms did after spending thousands. But the reliability is the issue, no matter how bad ive never been left stranded by a toyota, but I’ve been stranded by a jeep on 2 occasions. I would own a jeep again but I dont know if it would be my primary expedition truck.

I felt like I was in a muscle car with the amount of power that has. The feeling and the sound are just so perfect.

The new set of SCS Gen5 came in today. Scored a pretty great deal and had them in 2 days, sometimes the stars just align!
