Hello Everyone, I'm new to the forum. I tried to upload a pic the other day and I think something went wrong. My name is pokey and I recently purchased this 1992 FJ. Seems pretty good so far, hubby has changed spark plugs and wires and re-routed some vacuum lines that were crossed. We will be doing a timing adjustment and valve adjustment and changing the fuel filter. Pretty happy so far, it has 225K miles on it and seems to be in pretty good shape. PO put new glass in it front and back and tinted the windows. Needs a few things, clamshell that goes around the steering column and some pieces to the roof rack are missing. One thing at a time. Good thing hubby is a mechanic! Thanks for this forum, lots of great information and great people. Talk to you soon.

Keep an eye out for leaking windshield. Always happens when it gets replaced because no one seems to do it correctly. Otherwise welcome :flipoff2:

FYI, I recently bought a new clamshell from Toyotapartsdeal.com. I had the impression they are hard to find.
I wouldn't mess with used because the plastic will likely be brittle and/or broken around the screw holes. There are different part numbers for with or without cruise control.
The fuel filter change will not be fun, but i'm sure your in house mechanic will take it all in stride.
Looks good! Keep us posted.

x2, just did this myself. The plastic gets old and can't hold its smoke.

Welcome to the addiction.

Welcome!

Your 92 is the FJ80 with a 3FE. You DON'T need to worry about the head gasket for the most part.

If you have concerns about operation, @jonheld is 'The Guru" of the 91-92 80 series, even though he humbly says he's not....

@LS1FJ40 will always tell everyone you have the best 80 ever made. They can both give you great insight on what you have or need to make it the best it can be.

Welcome!:flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

Congrats!

Best color and year! I have two that year and color!

My first 92 has been my most prized possession. The greatest vehicle I've ever owned. She's been with me for 25 years and has never let me down.

Enjoy your rig!

LS1FJ40 only speaks the truth...... the 3FE is the greatest engine Mr T ever produced! Throw some fuel in it and go! Just don't get upset when the neighbor passes you on his riding lawn mower! Lol..... Anyways....Enjoy!
P.S..... like stated in a prior post "welcome to the addiction", and that is the truth.....soon you'll forget bdays, Anniversarys, and other "non-important" things because your mind will be on "do I go 33's or 35's"? Lol

Interesting. My windshield was replaced by the PO right before I bought my 80. It was replaced by Portland Glass a very reputable company in Maine. I'm currently changing out the entire interior and I noticed I have water accumulating in the front passenger side foot well. If it is the windshield, is that where the water would accumulate? Or could that water be coming from the the sunroof drain, which I haven't had the chance to inspect yet?

Just get a good light, have a few drinks, and get real limber..... because I had to get into positions I didn't think I could while I was laying upside down, with my head up behind the dash, trying to see a glint of moisture!! Fun....

This is true. The 3FE is the best petrol motor Mr. T has put out. It does exactly what it was designed to do. Get you there. Not fast by any means but insanely durable and reliable.

As Jon Held say "You pour beer in the gas tank and piss in the crank case".

It's common. Reputable does mean correctly. The Land Cruiser glass doesn't get installed like most other vehicles.

A dad on my son's baseball team works for a very well known windshield repair company (they did a fine job on my Camry after it cracked). Anyway, tonight he came to their game straight from work and had his van with him. I told him I had a couple of rock chips in the driver's line of sight. He repaired them for me (free of charge, I might add). Then told me "don't call me if you need to replace your windshield. That will be a sonuvabitch!"

I didn't know the Clamshell was made with an option of cruise control or not. Mine has cruise control (I thought they all did) but the shell I got on Ebay was for non. I made it work though with a Dremel, wasn't hard and looks just fine.
