I am in NY and travel to Canada. I need a new starter. Turn the key and nothing. To ticking or clicking and no roll over. Where is the best place for me to buy one. I usually buy all factory parts, buy need it ASAP. Where should I get one that is cheap and so I can get it quick (within 3 days).

Part number: 28100-66060-84.

We have two in stock and could get it to you in the time frame you state above.

Give CDan a call.

Is that "no ticking or clicking and no roll over", or do you mean you hear ticking and clicking but no roll over?

If you're not getting anything, check your battery first.

Most Toyota dealers can get you any part in 3 days. Especially something like a starter. Some of the more rare stuff they sometimes have to back order from Japan which can take longer.
I wouldn't go with anything but OEM when it comes to the starter. Too many horror stories here on Mud about aftermarket starters going bad quickly.

Would a rebuild of his existing starter be the first step verses a new one? It would be cheaper and Dan good the parts to him just as fast.

If he's going to do it himself a rebuild would be the way to go.

Most shops I've talked to charge about the same for a complete new one as they do for rebuiling the old one. Guess the extra time taking the starter apart for the rebuild is simlilar to the cost of a reman unit.

x2 on the rebuild.

90% of the work is getting the starter off and back on the truck. It takes 5 minutes or less to do the actual rebuild part (swapping contacts/plunger). And that's going slow. (Assuming no unforeseen problems, like stripped nut heads.)

Most shops just :censor: you for "rebuilding" a starter. It's seriously like $40 in parts (not sure on exact price, see cdan for official quote).

Yeah, that's what I figured. That's why it's best to do it yourself.

I've already got my contacts and plunger from toyota

Before buying that new starter, check out this thread:

Could be you NSS and it could just be your starter. Post #54 shows you an easy way to rule out the NSS...

In my case with symtoms just like yours it was the starter contacts, even though I was positive it was not.
