It's back from the shop with new stainless piping! Almost done!

Interesting. The old system was sent so that the shop could recreate it exactly. i'm trying to find clear pics of the old system on the vehicle to see where it ran.

if you are never going to wheel it i don't really see an issue... unless you're really looking for that stock look and its supposed to be above the skid plate..

I am trying to keep it as stock as possible. That was the reason for sending the original pipes. I am not near the vehicle right now, but as soon as I can get to it I will look to determine what they did wrong. Nothings easy. JMP

Does anyone have a clear picture of a stock '78 FJ40 that shows how the original system is supposed to be run? Thanks, JMP

Thanks, but I was looking for a picture that shows how it runs in conjunction with the skid plate mentioned in the previous posts. Is it possible that this is how it was originally run? I know that does not make sense, but I have been surprised before. Thanks again, JMP

I believe you have the correct location...I dont know what exact years did it ...but...some years were under the skidplate....poor design? yes....but...thats what they did AFAIK i could be wrong :meh:

I will have to look thru some factory literature :)

I think '78 LCs routed the exhaust above the skid plate. Isn't there a cut-out in the front lip of the skid plate just inside the DS frame rail just for this purpose?

Wow, great repsonses! It looks like it varied by year as to whether it went above or below the skid plate. Once I can get to the vehicle , I will look to see if there was any way that it should have been run above. However, since the muffler shop had the original tubing I am guessing that in 1978 the system was run under the skid plate. Thanks again for the help! JMP
