Was it a tough job? How long did it take you?

x2 on that, I heard you had to disassemble the hub, and repack bearings etc every time you change rotors. Is this correct?

You remove the hub to remove the rotor; only extra labor is to remove the inside hub seal, clean the bearings and repack.

Any tips on how to accurately set the preload on the bearings? I've done it on other 4WD's but not on the LC. On those it was just to tighten until there was slight drag and then verify no play once the wheel was installed.

Just changed rotors on my LX, braking is smooth as silk now. Here's the page from the FSM:

Did you use the SST spring gauge or a calibrated elbow? :)

ddog I'm in longmont too. If you need help PM me. I do all my own work and would be glad to help

54mm socket is what I used...this is my 4th Toyota truck and they have all used the same socket. I bought a fish scale for the preload check and you have to do a little math for the preload too because you are hooking the fish scale at probably .5ft, so if your scale reads 10lbs, that would be .5*10=5 ft-lbs.

I picked up the socket, OTC pn 6612 from Amazon...Amazon.com: OTC 6612 Heavy-Duty 54mm Hex Locknut Socket: Automotive

I tossed a Lisle bearing packer Amazon.com: Lisle 34550 Handy Packer Bearing Packer: Automotive

Bearing packer end up costing about $3 since order got free shipping.

Scale was 0-30 lb. at Cabela's for around $12-13.

You'll need inner seals and new lockwashers for the spindle nut / locknut. CDan can give you part numbers off the top of his head:clap:

Using FSM torque numbers for the spindle nut and locknut got me dead on the preload number first time on both sides.

make sure to get the thin walled 54 mm socket. not sure if it matters on the LC, but on other solid axles yotas, it does. got mine from marlin crawler for cheap.

Also called a spindle nut socket...and it does really matter.;)

You'll more than pay for the tools the first time you diy. :princess: folded when I told her how much labor $$ she saved with me doin' the work. Bought a pneumatic grease gun to boot and still came in $200 less than the local Toyota and Lexus dealers.:bang:
