Went on trail rides today with lots of hills and off camber terrain, when I noticed when I would put it in 4low and go up or down the hill
my fan would rub on the front of the shroud. I assumed broken motor mount but I popped the hood and had a friend look at the motor while i had my foot on the brake and gave it some gas, and nothing the motor barley moved, so i assume that the mm's aren't broken, and it does it the worst in 4low. Just wondering if anybody has encountered this problem? Or should I get rid of it and go electric? Thankyou.

There is a reason for the fan blades licking on the shroud, - you gotta find it! One way is to carefully have another person with the hood open, while you drive the rig in 4 low, lay on top of the engine bay looking down with a flashlight in the are of concern.

It also could be your sliders if you have sliders : )

hey mickey, I dont have sliders however when I am just idleing I opened the hood and pushed on the front of the shroud right on top on the center and thats where its
hitting this is without a load on the motor, I just don't understand why its so close.

Mickey, please don't give advice to others, the above post is a little strange and NO ONE should act on it.

Your fan shroud had nothing to do with sliders. You should NEVER hdrive with someone over the engine bay.

Why do you think it's hitting the shroud?

I did a serach in the advamced mode for the 80's section with Fan +shroud+hitting and came up with the following thread. Read it over and post back.

Also, don't anyone take Mickeys advice:rolleyes:

I really dont know why its hitting. Is it possible that the previous owner could have put a different fan&clutch and thats why its rubing?

Do you have a body lift installed?

Yeah sounds like engine mounts. Only way to check for sure is to lever or jack the engine up and watch the mounts. Even if the mounts aren't broken sometimes they are perished enough to flex enough to cause problems. Usually it's the LH engine mount that goes first due to torque twist in the drive line but the RH can fail too, not that uncommon.

I will definetly try the jack to see the mounts flex, I dont have a body lift , and i dont have an aftermarket radiator.

You can torque the motor over by power-braking it. Open the hood and look through the open back end of the hood at the engine. Shift into low range and 1st gear. Set the e-brake hard, stand on the service brake with your left foot and apply the throttle. NOBODY ANYWHERE NEAR THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK and a clear path in front of you if it lunges. You can find a broken mount pretty fast.

Cmon Dan - I think someone said:

For every success there is a thousand failures

Or was it:

For every victory, blood was shed

Maybe the second quote was better than the first in this case ...

c-dan I tried that brake and throttle idea already and the motor barley even moved
but it still hit the fan shroud.

What is your fan to shroud clearance while engine is off? Perhaps the front end is tweaked.

Clever.

I've been wondering if my own motor mount was about done, though I've had no trouble so far. I'll try that as a test of my own motor mounts.

the cleareance on the fan is just shy of 1inch but the mesuarment is from the inside
the shroud to the front of the fan, kind of hard to explain but thats were it is hitting

Any chance the vehicle could have been in a wreck and moved the front end alittle?
