200-Series are Cash Cows? That must be a statement from a non-200-Series owner.
Answer your question?
The finest thing I see from a 200 series is everything underneath the sheet metal. The interior materials aren't anywhere near as good as the 100. I'm not arguing about ergonomics, but I am arguing that the material used is cheap.
The 80 series is no longer produced. I think you meant the 7X Series which is manufactured on the same line as the 200/570.
I would disagree with your last statement about these vehicles being "less profitable." I would say the exact opposite that these vehicles make Toyota a lot of money in certain worldwide markets and sectors.
They produce a Land Cruiser every 150 seconds at Yoshiwara. There must be a demand for these vehicles if they are producing any of them at all.
I didn't say they still produce the 80 or the 100, I'm giving an example of the platform that hasn't been used. And me being Arabian, visit Arabia often, I'm aware of the LC's popularity world wide.
LC's don't all come packaged up like in the USA or UK. the 100 series came in many trims. For example:
G = stripped down manual windows with no center console or even arm rests, 3 spoke non airbag wheels, steel wheels and a 1FZ-FE with a part time 4WD system
GX = adds power windows, center console, HVAC 5spd manual only
GX-R = Adds luxuries such as cd players, wood grain and leather optional Automatic transmission or 5spd manual
VX = Adds what you get in a 98-2002 100 optional Automatic transmission or 5spd Manual
VX-R = Adds everything you get on a LX470 optional Automatic transmission or 5spd manual
VX-R Limited = More then what you get in a LX470 including locking rear differential, front mount winch, optional Automatic transmission or 5spd manual
I think the winch was probably optional in some other packages. So its this kind of packaging that makes the 100/200 series sell way more than you'd see in America.
