WOT = waste of time.

Thanks for your input. :flipoff2: If you click on the X it'll all go away. You had time to say it's a waste of time but you're clearly too cool to cast a vote.

I've gotten some really good feedback and ideas out of this thread. If it's a waste of time for you then gtfo. I really appreciate all the input and ideas that have been contributed.

My apologies toddD... My vomit comment was out of line... Voting for a paint scheme on YOUR truck just seemed silly, however this thread has brought up a plethora of paint scheme options and pros and cons of different paints...it seems you're well on your way to a well thought out resolution. Cant wait to see what you come up with.
Mickeyt: well said and well deserved... (embarrased). Dont think i need any more larry david lessons.... :)

I have other projects keeping me busy but I am shopping for gear, slowly getting a plan together, etc. I'm anxious to start taking it apart but have to line up the ducks first.
Researching paint is a major headache. I still haven't figured out which paint system would be best. I'd like to keep the entire costs under $500 and still have it look really good but we'll see how that goes.

some other dudes rides, thought it might help with the decision making PICT0002.webp

mhanssens,
That first rig looks like it might be 6M1 green. Looks great when it's not old and flaking off.
Original white is awesome, of course.
Any idea what color is on that 3rd rig? Looks good.

Desert Tan = 10.5
Blue / White = 10.5
Green 6M1 = 10
Pink = 5
John Deere Blitz Black = 3
Olive Drab = 2.5
Ebag's make over = 2
Murdered out = 2
Black = 2
BB Camo = 1
Nightshadow Pearl = 1
Metallic Grey = 1
Orange = 1
Toyota Freeborn Red = 1
Seafoam Green = 1
Prius baby puke green = 1
OD Green / Tan = 1
Short bus Yellow = 1
Ivan Stewart = 1
Marine Blue = 1

Looks like the John Deer satin black.

To help narrow the choices, what are you actually capable of? I mean, a vote for Ivan Stewart is worthless if you can't manage that complicated a paint job. So, maybe at some point pull it down to just the options you can actually do and re-vote.

3rd Color could be any combo of Flat black with Satin or flat clear coat.
I am on the fence on my own rig to go all flat black Line-X, or bottom half Line-X and top half OEM grey. But that pic makes me go back to blacked out....

I agree with Walking Eagle. Eliminate all the options that really are not viable. I mean, the Ivan Stewart paint is awesome, but how many of us can actually pull that off in our garage, or for any sort of budget? :meh:

Cheers

Doug

I like the split look, lower linex'd (where you need it anyway) upper oem.

I'd attempt that Ivan Stewart paint job in the garage. I think it looks great. It would raise the price of the job for sure. I think I'd have to do a clear coat over it. I bet it would look nice with linex down low and on the flares.

wouldnt it be cheap and easy to just get a wrap for the ivan stewart stripes?

That would look amazing. LOTS of work though. 4 colors, clear, plus Line-X.
Changing my vote if you think you can pull that off!

I'm not worked up about pink just don't like it, maybe a chicks ride and camo pink mich more ecxeptable than straight pink.

Go back stock. Resale! Plus it won't look so goofy when someone opens the hood, doors, etc.
The original Green is nice and well in the running. If I paint a color other than 6M1 I'll probably paint the areas inside the doors and as much under the hood as possible without massive amounts of labor. Meaning I wouldn't remove the engine but I'd pull as much as I could out.

I could pull it off. It would take much more time, work and $ but I could swing it.

I recently met a guy that does custom paint, vinyl, airbrushing, etc... I'm gonna have to call him and see if we can work out a deal. I was thinking about consulting with him anyway. I think a phone call is in order.

cheap paint like

Urethane Alkyd Gloss Enamel M22

FWIW

If you want a very durable paint, but one that you can have tinted to your color preference, you might try this industrial oil based paint - sprays easy once you add a bit of mineral spirits to bring the viscosity in range. I have painted wood and metal with this, looks good years later - very hard. But I have never painted a truck with it! About $40 a gallon.
