So are you looking for a 100 in the States then?

Yes, looking right now, but lightly. I won't buy until the HDJ100 arrives, should be here around end of march, then i'll be ready to buy. Like i said; 2001-2002 really really clean, high mileage. Not sure which interior color i should be aiming for. I don't like grey, what you all have to say about the prefered interior color. My Montero is tan, i kinda like it...

Eric

I like my tan, but i wish I had grey because then I would have bought that very last drawer system Slee had. I'm with going with an interior color that compliments the outside color, I dont like one color or the other really. So this post was no help at all. Get tan.

LOL ok...

But the HDJ100 i'm getting has grey interior, but again there may not be any good reason to have a spare complete interior :hhmm:

Correction, it'll have HALF of a grey interior.

no, he is removing all the interior and putting it in a wood crate with alot of other stuff. Only the fame and body (steel) rear section will be missing. Doors damaged in the roll are going to stay there, doors not damage will come.

FYI, you should have no trouble ordering parts from a Toyota dealership for a 100 series LC in Canada. Obviously they are available from Lexus as 470 parts, but a Toyota dealer should be able to look up the 100 series LC parts and order them (possibly cheaper than Lexus parts too, depending on the dealer).

If you need any help in the Ottawa/Gatineau area, feel free to PM me. Your build sounds really cool!

The only issues he would run into are parts for his hd engine. No toyota dealers around here or in canada can order parts for the LC diesels, as far as I know. Maybe if you have a really good dealer, they'll order the part from Toyota Japan and have it shipped to you. All other parts can be interchanged between the LX and the LC. (other than the tail and head lights obviously)

He could also cut out the middle man altogether and order parts from D.S. (Japan4x4) himself.

And all doors and fenders, believe it or not.

ALL of them? The front and rear quarterpanels, yes. That I'd expect, but the doors? What's different about those?

the actual shape will fit anything, as in you can fit either parking light in either panel, as with the tail lights (all year LC lights fit in 03-07 LXs, but need rewiring). it's the extra holes in the door for the LXs body moldings clips.

I'm only mentioning it because if he gets a LC and ends up needing a body panel due to damage gonna need to fill the holes somehow (not hard for a bodyshop, but increases costs). Or would need to order the panel from here(USA).

Hood, front bumper, grille, headlight filler trim and obviously headlights are different along with the lower tailgate, I THINK the upper one is the same, dont quote me though. Rear tail light wiring is also different, as the LX has the reverse wiring going into the tailgate, while the LC keeps them outboard.

Parking lights are the same shape and design( the LC has a dual filament bulb while the LX just has a small 5w park light) and the shape of all the other panels that were not mentioned above are the same shape, however the LX variant has extra square holes in the them to fit up the plastic cladding.

All good info to have on hand when you start to cut things up and have a truck that isnt native to your locale.

Well, I have a few questions, and I'll start with the most important one...will you be making popcorn and selling tickets for some local guys to come and enjoy watching the work being done? :)

OK, seriously, I have been thinking of a troopy, or LV, for a weekend getaway rig, but lately have been toying with the idea of a similar build, OK not similar as it would be less drastic, but dropping a 3B turbo diesel, 5 speed into a gen 3 or even a gen 2 4runner...you know if this will work or has been done?

OK, back to the 100, I looked at those rigs in France as well...assuming the truck being sold is in good condition...could you have taken to body off the frame, shipped the frame, and body separately, and reassemble back to it's 100% originality here to meet import requirements?

What is the cut-off year to have to import in parts?

Looking forward to seeing this in person...will be one freaken big job, but I love your plan...oh ya...Tan interior ;)

Agreed, engine parts will be harder to source.

It's true that the parts are different between LCs and LXs, but I can order any LC parts from any Toyota dealer for my 96 (which was never sold in Canada). It's the same for the 100s and I assume the 200s (I stopped working at the parts counter before they came out ;)). Even though the LCs were never sold here after 1990, they are still included in the EPC at the Toyota dealers, and obviously all LX parts are available from any Lexus dealers. All LC parts available in the USA are also available in Canada (a new master cylinder for my rig is on it's way from the California warehouse right now, via Toyota), so the only potentially troublesome parts will be diesel engine specific, and with a good contact in France it may not be that hard to get hold of those too.

And what do you consider local? I'd be happy to drive up for a build day to see this in person and lend a hand if you want!

Lets get this thing on the boat and here before we start talking about partys!;)

Hey,
I really can't understand what's so terribly better about an HDJ to justify such a project's work and cost.
I mean, except the gas mileage (and obviously related range), there's nothing I see in my local fellow offroader's diesels (which are vast majority here) that would make me want one of these rather than my UZJ. Much less spending a lot of money doing a conversion.
That doesn´t mean I wouldn't like to see your project's progress, of course.

I agree w/ Dandon & I could have potentially boutght a Diesel, it is just that for an equivalent Vehicle in Europe the dollar cost difference is very wide. I imported a US gas to Europe because an equivalent vehicle here was 50-70% more expensive. (FX at the time was close to 1.6) This seems to be a project of passion for Diesel..... have fun. You could even make a profit if you find an equally passionate diesel fan...
