Is is normal for your head unit to stick out like that or was that something you did to make it stand out? I am in the process of installing a head unit that works in the same way and I'm kinda worried that when the head unit is fully installed that it won't clear the dash properly! That's why I asked if you did this on purpose and if you did then what exactly did you do!

It does stick out that far on purpose, I can't go into to much detail on the installation as I had someone do it for me as I had the navigation, speakers, amp and alarm system all installed at the same time. I can tell you that when it is open there is room for it to tilt back towards the dash so it is a little easier to see. I will take a look at it a little better and try and get some pictures for you.

Thanks!

If you guys are bypassing the OEM amp what are you doing with the amp harness that comes with the Eclipse deck? Just ignore it?
Also
power antenna supply (blue) ignore
remote turn on amp (blue white) ignore
cellular phone mute (pink) ignore if you do not have the blue tooth kit.

One last thing I ran all power and grounds through the new toyota harness to the eclipse with no wires going to external grounds etc?
Is this the way you all did it?
Yes i am electronically challanged and it is getting late.

Thanks

I looked up the speaker wire colors in the EWD (installed the HU before I installed new speakers) and simply used the stripped pigtail harness that comes with the Nav unit. I ran the wires for the speakers behind/above the glove box over to where the factory amp used to be (where all the direct speaker wires terminate in a harness) and used wire taps into them.

I also put the iPod interface box where the factory amp used to be. It's pretty much a perfect fit and makes keeping an iPod in the glovebox (and out of sight) very simple.

Toyota was so very thoughtful as the car is already prewired where you can just unplug the factory amp. You would never see this in a German car!
I used an adapter harness spliced directly into the Ecliplse harness plugged directly into the two unused harness connnectors in the truck and did not splice any factory wires at all.

Maybe LX450 radios and LC radios are different? On my LX450 the radio amp was behind the mid/tweeter located just to the right of the glovebox. :hmm:

Yes I am going this route. The aftermarket wiring harness is a direct fit into the 2 unused plugs behind the OEM deck. Just unplug the harness from the oem HU and do not use it anymore as it goes to the amp. As stated above disconnect the amp which is right of the glovebox behind the tweeter. I also took mine out to make room for the ipod. The only problem I was having with the wiring harness is that the red 12v wire was suppose to provide power when key was on and it did not:frown: So I taped that line directly.

Back to the install!

Thanks all.
