I recently installed the same unit with sirius, ipod, and backup camera in a 94'. Very tight fit but obviously possible!

Ya better ditch that red top for a yellow top. My red top couldn't handle sitting in a parking lot with the stereo going for more than about 15 minutes.

That is odd... with the parking break grounded I can enter an address while moving.

What does the status screen show when you are moving?

Sorry guys. False alarm. It works great

For the sake of the database, here is where I hooked up my VSS and reverse leads behind the glove box

Also did the blutooth add-on, Sirius radio and rear camera. Screen is very crisp, the photo doesn't do it justice. I am very happy with this headunit.

I am thinking of doing this install.
Prices are dropping on ebay! Some 5510 or 6620 around $699-$749.

For those who have done it, did you get a specific wiring harness or did you just cut and splice into speaker wires?

Thanks
Looks great BTW:beer:

:eek:wow actually getting into the affordable range.................

There was no splicing the OE harness at all. There is a Toyota harness adaptor (sold seperately) that will plug into two empty unused speaker connections behind the factory radio. Also make sure to unplug the factory amp that is just to the right of the glovebox. I forgot to to this and the new headunit wouldn't work until the amp was disconnected.

The harness adaptors are all over ebay and very cheap.

I really love this headunit, it' s a tight fit as others have stated but worth the trouble.

One more question?

How do you get the screen to go to night mode?
Is it just hooked up to your headlights or is there a seperate sensor for that?

Thanks! Yes prices are coming down and for those who do not have one I love GPS which show all the national forest roads in Oregon. It has saved my butt many times.

I spliced everything myself. It was very easy with the EWD, just alot of butt splices

The screen goes into night mode when it sense 12v on a certain wire. I hooked this up to the backlight power on one of the swiches (I think hazard switch) in my dash.

Its good to see the price dropping. The $1500 msrp is pretty damn high, but it looks and works almost exactly the same as OEM lexus/toyota satnav, and that is worth it IMO. And it's Eclise audio quality, which is superb!

Avn 7000

I have have the AVN 7000 I had someone else install back in May 07 I love it. I went with the 7000 so that the screen would sit a little higher in the veh little easier to see I think at least. I have tried to find a dimmer how does your "night mode" work?

Working on getting pics but by uploads keep failing :censor:

Resize them to 800x600 or less. Many tools to do this. If you are clueless then start with the freeware IrfanView for the WinXP platform.

Ok here we go... I don't know I will have to sit down when I have more time to see what I am doing wrong thought I had them resized will work on it and try and get them up

no clue. why don't you pull the unit and send it to me and I'll get back to you with the answer just as soon as I get it figured out.:D

Ive been in a few audio/video places lately looking for this Eclipse HU, and almost no one carries it anymore. When asked why, they say theyre being phased out, and most of them say the newer Eclipse products are the suck when it comes to quality. I was told that the new Kenwood (I think) was the way to go. Either way, when I do get myself a nav unit, it will NOT be the pop out screen one... I need that damn cup holder lol.

OK I got one of these units for my birthday:bounce:

Before I install I have a couple of questions for you experienced folks.

Where did you mount the GPS antenna?
I got a harness that can be used with the factory amp. Should I go that way or take out the amp and use a different harness for no amp?

I got the new AVN6620 for $820. I also got the ipod and backup camera.

As for the one comment above about quality. Toyota has been using tham for years. I have them on several rigs and they work great with no issues. I guess if I were trying to sell you a Kenwood I would tell you otherwise! Do not listen to sales people do your own research! That is all I have to say.

Pics of install when done:beer:

jditom,
I put the antenna in the center of my dash. I have no reception issues, but I'm quite sure moving it further away from the unit and having a larger ground around it would help. The roof is another good choice if you have the time and desire to run the wire up the pillars.

Also, IMO the amp in the HU is far better than the amp in the car, and you're better of bypassing the car's amp.

Cool,
Just waiting for my wireing harness and the fun begins!
Any other tips are appriciated:beer:

On another note I did get the "night mode" to work finally.
