It took me about an hour and a half to install. The longest part was finding the parking break switch wire in the absolute nest down in the kick panel. I spent a solid 45 minutes before I actually looked in the right section of the EWD, and from there it was a snap.

I'm new here just picked up my first 80.
I just ordered this same AVN5510 from crutchfield. I am having a hard time locating the parking brake switch in the FSM as well.
Nate-
You think you could give me a hint where this is in the kickpanel or where in the wiring diagram you found it? My TIS subscription runs out at 5:30am

Also wondering if this Navi only allows me to mess with it while the truck is sitting still (with parking brake applied) or maybe there's a workaround for that.

appreciate any help you can give me
Thanks
Vinny

After some research I think I am going to just ground the parking brake wire of the unit to bypass the safety feature of having to engage the parking brake to enter addresses etc.

Vinny, I ultimately did the same. Ensure you hook up the reverse sense wire and speed sensing wire though, as both of these are important. I'm thinking of installing a backup camera too soon

Still really digging this headunit, esp after I put new speakers and sound deadening in. It sounds absolutely fantastic.

Parking brake switch is located close to the parking brake lever.

What if I fly you out to ABQ over the Christmas break and you install sound deadener and the same system in my truck? :D

BTW, nice install.

Nice shot of Memorial Hosp/Parkland Estates on your screen. I live about 6 blocks south.

LoL, 6 blocks south huh? Are you the FJ-80 on Morrison, or somewhere over in New Suburb beautiful?

Just promise you won't come and jack my stuff :flipoff2:

Not to be negative, but hope you have a good alarm system. My 80 got broken into on Haloween night and they took all my goodies. :mad:Even ripped the b/up camera off the roof rack. The kids were stupid enough to leave prints all over the vehicle, and they caught them two days later,;p but they busted up the inside of my rig pretty good ripping the stereo and the amps out. Your system looks awesome though and like it was said earlier if you hook the Parking sensor to a negative you can use the screen all the time. I am looking forward to installing my DNX7100 soooonn. Driving with no radio is no fun...

Elipse AVN5510 w/ sirius, ipod, and backup camera

I recently installed the same unit with sirius, ipod, and backup camera in a 94'. Very tight fit but obviously possible!

Your mom came over and painted it burgundy for me ; ) After removing a dash kit, the plastic was in rough shape, so I color matched it to the exterior paint.

Happy holidays

I just finished installing this unit and have a question.
Is there a way to enter addresses without having to come to a complete stop?

I have grounded the parking brake wire which allows DVDs to be played on the go but does not trick the Navi.

We also have an 06' Lexus RX400h that has a similar system from the factory which has a "diagnostic mode" that will allow this with some fiddling through the volume screen.

Thanks

That is odd... with the parking break grounded I can enter an address while moving.

What does the status screen show when you are moving?

same here. with the parking brake wire grounded with the rest. i have full control while driving. where are you grounding it exactly?

navi

I just installed the Scion navi/dvd/cd combo into my 04 4Runner and I am seriously thinking about putting one into my 80. It is a sweet setup. I found a Ipod connection wire on ebay for $70.00 that uses the touchscreen as the ipod controller.

Ooooh, Im interested in this. What was the donor vehicle? Was the harness plug and play? Any tricks to the install?

its the accessory scion nav unit, it plugged right into the factory plugs, the only plug i needed was for the ipod which i got off of ebay....the same plug for all 2008 scion headunits.

Did you purchase this unit new or was there a donor vehicle? What did you pay for it?

It looks like the part # is 08545-00930. Can we get a price check Dan? :D

.

I got it off of ebay new in the box, and yes its the 08545-00930, i think dealer cost is about $1800.00. I paid about $1200.00 shipped. I will get a nav screen shot when the wife returns with the truck.
