Got some new Mickey Thompson MTZ's a few weeks ago and have done only a couple hundred kms on them, some dirt roads and normal road driving... nothing that should damage them. I especially wasn't expecting it because they are so called top of the line tyres with a top end price tag too, thats why I got them... Taking back to the shop tomorrow wish me luck

The tyre shop and supplier have both been pretty responsive and helpful, looks like they are getting replaced asap... apparently there was a "bad batch" that came through.

The time stamp on them is DOT UTYU MBM 1612 which translates to the 1st week of June 2012

Glad they're taking care of it, really good eye to notice that before a blow out.

Update: replacement tyres fitted. Checked date stamps and they have sent me 3 from early 2011 with the older load range D And one from 2012 with load range E...

Geting annoyed now. Supplier obviously doesn't know what is going out the door and tyre shop doesn't care what they putting on.

I'd put more emphasis on changing shops than brands (unless they have something else you like that's newer). I doubt it's in any way Mickey T's fault. Good luck. Is it common for your area to have tyre supplies that are 3-years old? I'm just wondering what kind of issues you guys might have to live with being so far from the rest of the world.

FYI...I had new MTZ 33x12.5x15 on my 40 for about 3000 miles and they performed great everywhere. I bought them to fit the PO's wheels that I couldn't afford to replace at the time. No power steering caused me to jump on some BFG KM2's with wheels for a steal. They've been truly excellent except for the first few hours on pavement after the rain starts. I really wish MT would make some narrow tyres but I'll probably still look at them when it's time for 315's on my 80 next year.

Thanks JohnVee, yea your right not MT fault and to be honest the support has been good its just the not checking tyres before sending out.. I've had a reply already and they are going to replace with new set and I get to keep the one E range already fitted as a spare. Faith restored!

Quite possibly right about our isolation too maybe there just isn't that much stock down here.. anyway hopefully sorted now

I REALLY like the MTZ. I put a st on my 80 Series and I liked them so much I bought a set for my wife's 80 Series AND a set for my Dodge truck. When the BFG KM2s that came on my BJ74 wear down I will replace those with Baja MTZs.

I am lead to believe there are two types of Mickey Thompson tyres, as I have come across it hear in Australia. The originals handled by the distributor and then the cheaper version out of Malaysia which importers bring in direct and sell cheaper, its these tyres that tend to fail.

You need to ask the main distributor which tyre shops are selling there tyres or ask the tyre store where they sourced there tyres from?

PS. Check the side wall, should be 8 ply? same for the ATZ's as well, high failure rate.
