Howdy all,

Just joined as this seems to be one of the few places on the internet where one can find information on the Toyota 3L diesel engine.

Not new to diesels myself, I'm a glutton for GM 6.5 diesel punishment and run a 2003 VW ALH TDI as well. I'm a big fan of the older, more simple diesels.

I'm joining in part to help out a friend that recently purchased a Toyota Dyna 150 camper van. It's a really cool rig, right hand drive, imported here to the states and as such the workshop manual is all in Japanese.

The engine just hit the 100 kilometer mark, so it's due for a timing belt replacement. I've watched a few videos on the procedure, but what I'm really looking for help on is finding the correct torque specs for the timing belt job. I want to help my bud out with the job and plan on replacing the water pump along with the tensioner and idler pulleys/ bearings and whatnot.

I've found the general service manual .pdf on here for 2L and 3L engines, and while it's a great resource to have (thank you for making it available) it does not cover the timing belt replacement procedure.

If anyone can point me in the direction of timing belt specific info I'd sure appreciate the help! Thanks again for letting me join, cheers

You might have better luck in the jdm 24v/diesel sub forum. 3L is not common in these 90 series.

Thanks for the sub forum suggestion. I was able to find the complete engine manual and just finished helping my friend do the timing belt along with replacing the leaking exhaust manifold and all new serpentine belts. Runs like new. I don't understand why Toyota designed an engine with 4 serpentine belts but the job is done and I'm happy it's over :) Now just gotta convince my buddy to add a turbo to the rig it certainly needs one!
